Beast in the howse!!
Hi guys!
I hope all is well with everyone. It's been a long time since I've been here. Surgery was 6/28/07, and I weighed 285 on that day. I was on C-PAP for severe sleep apnea and 4 meds daily, including type-2 diabetes. Just a hair over 4 months out and I've been medication free for several months with a blood pressure holding a steady 120/70. No more C-PAP machine and my weight today is 205. I'll be under the 200 mark very soon. That's what I've been wanting to see for a long time. People say that I look good and should hold where I am at because it looks healthy on my 5'11" frame, but I will press on my personal goal of about 175-180 because I like being slightly on the thin side from past experience.
If anyone feels like RNY isn't working for them like it does for everyone else... I was there too! Give it time and don't be a slave to the scale.
Take care, The Beast!
I think that 175 may be a little too thin. I got down to about 185 from 270 and I looked more like a cancer patient than one of WLS . I looked totally gaunt and sickly. I got back up to 200 and things filled back in a little and i looked much more healthy. There's more to losing weight than looking sick. People with anorexia look thin but are not healthy nor look it. I think our body will level out to it's most comfortable weight. But then I'm speaking from what worked for me and how my bod reacted to the too thin look. But everyone is different. What works with one may not work with another.
I'm 5'11" and got down to 187. I started to look like I had just come from a WWII concentration camp!! Add a few more complex carbs as you get closer to your goal. I got really sacred about going below my goal (both my and my doctor's goal was 190#). I thought I wouldn't stop, so I ate everything in site...Big mistake. Be sure to not lose muscle mass if you drop below 180. Good to hear your doing good. Brian

Thanks for the advice guys! You may be right about getting too thin and looking sickly. People are expressing concern about this because I have a history of going too far once I get on a weight loss roll. I have to break the 200 barrier at any rate, so after that I'll try and find a good place to try and maintain. My primary Dr. is pretty much old school and goes by the old fashioned weight charts and thinks I should get down to about 158. I told him that he's basically insane if he thinks I'm going to go that low. He's a great Doctor and is the one who suggested I have bariatric surgery, but he's a small man and doesn't realize what a guy with my size frame should weigh.
