Milk Consumption

I don't seem to have an issue with milk or milk products. Even though I still drink 2% or less usually. With that said do I still need to take Calcium supplements twice daily in addition to 16 to 24 ounces of milk daily?

I drink a 24 to 32 oz glass everyday on the way to work in the morning.  Usually 1/2 or 2%,  just can't drink the Skim.  I still take my calcium too.  I figure if I'm getting too much I'll just pee it out.

What Dave said!! If you  don't get enough and start having curvature of the spine or brittle bones later in life,... taking the calcium then doesn't straighten you up any or fix the broken hip.  Take it now and don't take the risk.

Had a chance to ask a questions to my surgeon at the last support group meeting.  I said my PCP said I don't need a bone scan if the calicum labs show up ok.  What did he think of that?  He said get a bone scan because there is malabsorbtion going on with RNY.  Just because you are eating properly doesn't mean you are getting the absorbtion.  Like Joe said it is a safty outlet you need to use.  And what has been stressed to me is on some of these vitamins and minerals...if you come up short, you may not be able to make it up later.  You may not be able to repair from these issues.  Vitamin B-1 and B-12 are two that once you fall short you can not recover.  We just don't know what problems can arise in the future...You just may not want to chance it...Brian
