Has anyone had this issue

Has anyone else had an issue with eating after 6 weeks post op. I was doing fine for the first four weeks. I was right on track with the soft foods and was starting to introduce new foods when all of a sudden anything I tried to eat would not stay down, not even the food I was fine with. I would eat about two bites when all of a sudden my stomache will start gurgling and then I would be in the bathroom. I went to the doctor and he doesn't think it is a stricture so I was put back on liquids only for two weeks. The two weeks are almost up and it seems to be getting worst. I am now having trouble taking my protein shakes.  I am starting to wonder if there could be another issue. Any ideas on what it could be would be helpful. I am starting to get nervous that I will not be able to eat or drink.

Footsieiii, you didnt say what type of surgery you had and I dont know that it would matter, but I had RNY almost 19 months ago, and about 4 or 5 weeks post-op I developed the same symptoms you describe.  Towards the end, I couldnt even keep down a sip of water without tossing it back up (sorry for the graphics).  It turned out to be a bowel obstruction, and I had to be rushed into surgery to have it taken care of.  Now dont panic because it could be something entirely different with you, but you may wish to mention this to your doc.  I would hope that he would have considered this already and ruled it out if not the problem, but I dont know how common this is.  Whatever the case, you cant let this persist, as you already know, you are losing valuable nutrients by not being able to keep anything down.

Again, dont panic, whatever the problem is. it will be found and taken care of.  Hopefully it is something minor.  Keep us posted and good luck.

First, Welcome to the Men’s Board! Now, you know, it sounds like the classic symptoms for a stricture, Particularly with "kicking back" the liquids this week. Stay all on top of that doc. Having a Hunch, or even Really Educated Guess that it’s not a stricture, Is very different that doing an endoscopy to make sure. Yes? Many have reported that a food that was working fine for them one week Caused them to be ill the following. And, once you irritate the pouch - (I’m presuming RNY on statistical probability) It can be "fussy" for quite a while over just about anything. Hopefully your issue will be straightened out soon. Best Wishes- Dx

John & Dx,     Thanks for the encouragement. I did have the RNY and the doctor said it was so easy to do it on me that it only took two hours. I was schedualed to go back to him on Wednesday but last night my stomache was in pain I couldn't sleep. I am call the doctor this morning to see if there is something I can do now. I do hope it is something simple. Roland

I had the same deal at the 3 month mark and the surgeopn schedule an endoscopy. It was a stricture.  It was so small they couldn't get the scope into my pouch.  They stretched it open 3 cm and it has worked fine every since.  I am at 13 months now.  Stay after the surgeon until somebody offers something that solves the problem.  A scope from either end or both might shed some light on the problem.

Hi everyone,        I just got home from the hospital. After my last post I spoke to the doctor and he wanted me to go to the ER right away. Once I got there there Monday afternoon it was crazy. It ssems the doctor called ahead and told them I was arriving. As soon as I walked in the door they took me in the back and had an IV in my arm. Then took me to CT and gave me a swallow test. The test showed that barely any liquid was going into the pouch.        They admitted me into the hospital and did a EGD on me. Long story short, I did have a stricture and I only had an opening the size of a pin hole going through to the pouch. They opened it up so we shall see what happnes now.  Thank you all for the support you guys gave me.
