Rod Stewart and 8 track tapes...
Had this old Rod Stewart song going through my head. Yeh, I could have downloaded it off the internet, but chose instead to go out and buy the album at the second hand record store. As I was playing one song I was telling my 20 year old daughter about 8 tracks. I told her that on some long songs you would hear these double clicks on the music. That meant the track was changing (even when hearing certain songs today I can tell when those changes occured on the tape). She had no idea. I was trying to explain to her how cool it was for guys to be able to have your own choice of music in your own car!! Can you dig it?? As a teenager I felt it was so necessary to have an 8 track to impress the girls and other guys...We had to work for hours on the wiring and drilling out the areas for the speakers (make sure you have alot of base and a good subwoofer)!! Now, I guess buying a $2.50 records is alot better for trying to sustain my youth. The other choice would be to go out and get some hair implants, buy a convertable sports car, and drop my wife of 23 years for a 21 year old bimbo. In the long run I think I'll be happier with the record. Sorry this has nothing to do with weightloss, but some of you AARP members (or soon to be AARP members) might enjoy remembering...Brian
OH I'm gonna regret showing my age here.. but.. anyway.. I've still got one of those FM converters, that I had on my first car.. then there was the 23 channel Kraco SSB Deluxe CB (ok.. I still play Cb..).
I had that 73 Valiant Rockin with that converter, and the 8 track.. the shag carpet on the floor and back window ledge... the house stereo speakers sitting in the back seat.. LOL. Styilin!
And I've got a bunch of old 8 tracks.. Molly Hatchet, Lynard Skynard, Bread, and a ton of old records.. yep.. the vinyl kind.. Styx, Kiss, more Skynard, heck.. even some Cash, Acuff and Jones from back when.
It was funny tho trying to explain to some kids the other day what 16, 33, 45, and 78 rpm was all about, and trying to explain why there were different speeds. My daughter told my son.. "they were like big plastic CD's that scratched really easy.."..
And.. they were in hysterics when I told them about taping a penny to the turntable arm so the records wouldn't skip...
I'd still like to build another van... think it would impress the chicks today.. shag carpet, heart shaped windows, sidepipes, black light posters, some of those little mirrors with a Trans Am on them that we won at every carnival.... oh yeah!

My first vehicle as a teenager was a "black hippie van." I actually took it to Mexico and had the insides diamond tucked in black leather. Speaking of 8Tracks, I installed a quad 8track player which sounded out of this world.
Thanks for the mammeries, boys!!
"If you see this van rockin, don't come knockin!"
