One more question....Cardio and weight lifting
OK does anyone know if doing a weight lifting routine and doing cardio on the same day reduces the benefit of the weight lifting? I've heard that it overloads your system and prevents the full benefit of the weight training.
it kind of makes sense, but it was the first time I've ever heard that ...so i'm wondering if anyone else knows if it's true or not.

Overload the system ??
Thats a new one for me .
Although it would all depend on how much cardio , and how much weight lifting you are talking about ?
I do know that you should do about twenty mim. of cardio before you lift so you get your heart rate up .
I have done a fair amount of lifting in my day, and I have not heard that before .
I dont lift anymore though , just ride my bike .
I have no need for the bulk anymore .
After years of being BULKY Im a bit on the skidish side to start lifting again for that reason .
I may do a little this winter just to firm up a bit . Thats a whole different type of lifting though .
More reps with lighter weight Vs building bulk or mass you would use more weight and less reps .
Either way you still have to get your heart rate up before you start your routine witch ever way you are going about it .

Scott,
On my weight lifting days (roughly every other day), I walk briskly for about 20 minutes as a warm up. Then I do a full body work out on the weights. On my alternate days, I walk about 45 minutes.
This routine has worked very well for me. So I don't think you'll run into any problems with overdoing it. In my reading about weight training, I noted that one should avoid overtraining and allow an adequate rest between workouts.
I hope this helps.

Nah. I wouldn't worry about that. Allegedly it's better to do anaerobic exercises like weight lifting first to get the fire burning and then do cardio afterwards but you'll find pro and con views on that topic and just about every other topic revolving around exercise routines as well.
If it works for you and your body can handle it I'd say go for it!

If you go and hit an hour long running session and then feel sluggish lifting, it may be an issue. I think it would depend how you feel more than anything else.
