5 months and new pic and avatar
I actually waited between 5 and 6 weeks (when they told me everything was completely healed). I started with a trainer and spent some time with him going over everything about my surgery and how it impacted eating, etc. He started fairly slow to ensure things felt OK. He constantly was checking to see how I was feeling. In one session I felt real cold and dizzy. He noticed it in my face and had me sit for a couple of minutes. Prior to the gym I did a ton of walking - put a lot of miles on the shoes. Sometimes walked with handweights to add a little. I decided on a trainer to help insure I did things the right way. The guy I got is pretty good. He really works to motivate and challenge you. He pays a lot of attention to how your body reacts to the different things he has you do. I now train with hime 2X a week and get there another 1 -2 days. I do a lot of walking still and also coach a young girls soccer team which has allowed me to get in a bunch of running around with them. I want to get back into tennis more (should be much better as me knees don't give me the trouble they used to - I just need to find the time now). Just take it easy when you start up. Make sure you pay attention to how you're reacting. don't try and do too much too soon. Make sure you give yourself the time you need to heal. Brian
