Any experience with the "DASH" diet?
I had RNY bypass just over two years ago. For a while my blood pressure issues went away but I find now that it is high enough to go back on medication. I hate that.
I just read that there is a "Dietary Aproach to Stop Hypertension" (DASH) diet that should help reduce blood pressure problems without medication but I do not know if it is appropriate for guys like us. Anyone seen this, discussed it, modified it for our special cir****tances?
Have a great day.

Yes, as part of a multi-state study,I was on the DASH diet. Pennington Biomedical Research Center which is part of the LSU Medical system and similar facilities in California, North Carolina and Washington state are are part of a National Institutes of Health funded Weight Loss Management Study where for 6 months to a year you try the DASH diet. They main points of the diet are high levels of fruits and vegs. with 2 servings of low fat milk (or dairy) and low sodium every day. I had a goal of 9 servings of fruit and vegs. a day. A large apple would be 2 to 2 and 1/2 servings. I lost some weight on the study in part because I recorded everything I ate for 6 months. I later had a VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) so my nutrition needs and yours after a RNY are very different. I would be concerned using the DASH diet as your protein intake may be too low!
