Last week I weighed in at 213. This week....220? A gain of 7 pounds? Is it even possible? I don't think I could've done that eating chinese food and 2 liters of Mountain Dew. I admit I am not doing little to no cardio but I am weight training.  Is this expected? My doc did tell me that on average people do gain about 10% of the lost weight back. I  was thinking over the course of a year or 2, not 10 months.

Well, not knowing what you ate, but knowing that you've had RNY bypass, I find it pretty hard to imagine that you gained 7 pounds of body weight by food consumption in one week.  It may be fluid retention.  Do you consume a lot of salt? I am currently pre-op, and have moderate edema in my legs, for which I take lasix.  I can go up as much as 6 to 8 pounds in a day, 10 or 12 pounds in a few days, and have actually gained and lost as much as probably 15 pounds in a week. This is related to intake of salts, sugars, and fluids. However, I am over 400 lbs.  I hope that this problem diminishes greatly post surgery.  I know that if I overeat something high in sodium, I really retain water.  It can get uncomfortable, making it harder to breath, and making my legs hurt when swollen. If you continue to experience rapid changes in weight, especially in weight gain, this can be a sign of fluid retention, which can be caused by congestive heart failure or kidney problems, among others, so I would ask the doctor about it if I were you.

I think that is is water retention. There is no way to gain that much.  I will admit that I have not been good with my water intake and my coffee intake is high. I haven't eaten anything crazy. Maybe a cider donut or two within the past few weeks. My carb intake has gone up a little but my protein has gone right with it.

If you've been doing weight training, how do you know that the 7 lbs isn't bad... and it's muscle?  Just because you gain weight doesn't mean its fat or water... Have you thought about getting a body fat impedence done?  That will really tell wether or not you beefing up as appose to gaining fat back.  Your WLS clinic should have the gear to do a detailed one or even one of the bathroom scales might be able to tell you to a degree.
