Tempting Halloween Candy
Guys - I saw this in a news letter I get and thought it made good sense, not only for WLS folks, but for everyone. - Chris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you bought Halloween candy yet? If you haven’t, think twice about what you will be handing out. Halloween candy can cause you problems as well as helping the spread of obesity.
If you have candy sitting around your home in anticipation of Halloween, it can be very tempting. So here are some tips for handling those ghoulish goodies:
· Buy treats that you don’t like. It is much harder to control yourself around treats you like rather than those that you wouldn’t think twice about eating.
· If you must buy treats, buy them just before Halloween so they aren’t tempting you too long.
· After your children come home from their trick or treat adventures, have them pick out their 5 or 10 favorite treats and give the rest away to a homeless shelter or a personal care home. Children always get some treats that they don’t really like but end up eating because they are there. And the longer treats sit around your home, the more you will be tempted.
· There are lots of alternatives to candy that you can give out for Halloween such as stickers, trading cards, raisins, pretzels, glow in the dark insects, temporary tattoos, water pistols, tiny colorful notebooks, hair clips or scrunchies.
Try something new this Halloween and you will be helping yourself, your children and those in the neighborhood.
