What gives you dumping syndrome?

I don't getting dumping syndrome either. The only thing that jappens if I eat something that doesn't agree is a headache for about 20 minutes then I'm done. That is usually from high sugar.

Also if I have a protein shake or add protein to something without working out beforehand, I get a little ill. Not too long or bad though.

I read up a little on the mayo clinic website, and it said only about 15% of rny'ers will experiance dumping syndrome.  Usually caused by refined sugers and/or carbohydrates.  A contributing factor can also be acid reflux desease, which I have, so that is probably why I get it.  My dumping is vomiting, not from the other end.  I also dont think I am eating to much to cause it.  Must be high carb foods that do it for me. I'm a RNYer. I haven't figured out how much sugar I can or can't have. It seems, however, that however much sugar is in about a tablespoon of honey is enough to put me into a virtual coma. thanks, sister-in-law..."but, honey isn't sugar", she said. BTW. lemon ginger tea by Stash is very good with spelnda

I didn't have the RNY (hence I don't dump), but if it makes you feel any better...most peoples bodies adjust to their surgery enough...so while you still may dump further out, it won't be set off so easily. Scott

I haven't really taken in very much in the way of carbs, BUT when I eat those sugar free popsicles, I usually eat a bunch of them at 15 calories each.  The carbs add up and if I happen to ingest a few other carbs along the way, I fall asleep shortly thereafter.  So far, no dumping but some "out like a light" naps.  When I get close to goal I'll try some chocolates to test the dumping phenomenon but for now I want to keep shedding the pounds.

BTW, I would like to thank all of you guys for participating in the Men's forum.  It has been extremely helpful and I feel the comraderie.

Just about anything loaded with sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup ingested on an empty stomach.

It's usually sugars for me.  I can eat a small pack of peanut m&m's and be fine.   I ate a poptart because I was out of Protein bars and was starving ( i know not smart)  BOOM  I'm sweaty, lethargic, headache, etc.  Fresh fruits I can eat all day long.  I can drink cherry juicy juice. (for my gout) without a bit of trouble.  I drink a 20 something ounce glass of milk every morning on the way to work.  Nothing.

My wife on the other hand, milk is tough on her.  Sometimes her protein shakes (I hate em) make her dump too.

There's something that gets everyone out there somewhere.

Later,

Dave

I cant stand the protien shakes.  They make me feel ill too.  What I have found is the slim fast protien bars are delicious.  I have 3 a day with whatever other protien I eat and get 80+MG a day, and I feel great.  NO SHAKES!  I haven't had any problems with 1/2% milk. I also noticed that plain chicken is fine with me, but BBQ is to sugary and made me sick. Thanks for you input. kevin Hodges

I still have trouble with chicken unless it's very moist (which isn't often)  I usually have a big glass of milk to breakfast on the way to work and a couple of protien bars during the day sometime and whatever protein I eat is my 80 grms. Later. Dave
