October 23, got my date
Hey Bobby,
Great news, eh? The best advice is probably follow your doc's orders, stick the pre-op diet (especially important to help shrink our fatty livers), and try to be active in advance. Post-op, the guys will tell you to walk, walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip.
You're at an exciting place and if you're like I was, alternating between joy and some nagging anxieties. All normal--or as normal guys having obesity surgery can be!
Your life is on track to get better and better. Enjoy every moment and remember that the payoff is worth the pre-op and post-op attentiveness and bit of discomfort.
Keep us informed as you progress.
Doug

Hi Kevin,
Up here in Canada we have a heck of a time getting approval. First off there is only one doctor locally that will do the surgery. He is about 2 hours away in Victoria, BC. He has a waiting list of about 4 years from initial referral.
There was a surgeon here in Vancouver that was approved to do them as well. Unfortunately the local health authority didn't feel Bariatric Surgery was worth giving OR time for. I applied through our provincial insurance to go out of country and was approved 12 days later. I didn't do anything special other than get this local surgeon to fill out the form and then I provided the testing documentation that I needed this surgery due to my co-morbidities. I also wrote a letter explaining how my weight as effected me healthy wise and socially.
Hope that helps,
Bobby
