2nd 10K
DP,
Good job Dude! Proud of you with your getting into the running thing too.
Thanks for the encouragement. The tone of the last two races I did I was a bit more serious (fewer runners and better runners) than I anticpated or realized, but the good news is I wasn't last in either the 5K or the 10K. The bigger races with more particiapnats ai have learned is easier to feel good about yourself because of the nmuumber of people that come out and haven't trained properly and you get to pass a bunch. Its really great for the ego, unless you post a really optimistic pre-race anticipated finishing time and start with faster runners and get passed by a bunch of folks,...a real bummer. Don't do that to yourself.
Thanks for the support and welcome to the circuit!
Thanks Dave,...er,...uh,...not Dave,...sorry.
That HIIT training was a BIG help. I really appreciate the preaching and links that got me oriented and interested enough to apply it to my schedule.
Next is stride control and working on the heavy foot syndrome; the herd of buffalo impact (as Scott W. put it, just one person passing, I only sound like 10 people coming up behind you).
I've been reading and checking out the POSE training stuff you recommended. Don't know that I'm 100% sold on his techniques and theories but I agree with the logic and am experimenting with some tweaking to what I need to do to feel more comfortable and stronger during my traininig jogs.
Thanks for the enthusiam.
Sorry DH, replied to the wrong response.

Well, Howdy Stranger.
Good to hear from you.
Do the 5K but don't kill yourself. Use it as a starting point and determine where yo want to take it from there. I really enjoy the races. The races keep me comitted to the training. The training helps me minimize the loose skin and keep toned, and probably help lose some weight too,...in stages.
You'll do great. Keep us posted with the results when you talk yourself into doing it. Do it with a friend or famly member. An have a good time, fretting, training, racing, and the spoils of fnishing.
Its all good,.....its all goood,...its all good,...I said that already, didn't I?
That is really great. I hope I can join the ranks of the 10kers in November. There are three of them in that month, so I hope to do two of them unless the first one sends me into a nerve-racking depression. I am also shooting for under an hour, but finishing will be nice.
Do you have more trouble going uphill or down? For me, it's down, and I think it goes back to my fear of falling I developed as an obese person. I purposely slow down and guage my footsteps more when I'm going downhill. Maybe I should just roll.
Anyhow, congrats. You'll be creeping up on 60-minutes in no time.
Rob
Hey thanks there Rob.
I read an article from active .com I think about, running downhill. it recommended trying to not lean backwards and take a longer slower stride with a bit more bounce so you cover more ground airborne between strides. Like wise uphill, they recommend a conscious effort to lean forward some and get your feet out in front of you on each stride so you get the entire leg muscle power up the hill you lack on the shorter strides us slower joggers use at our maintenance jogging pace.
Hope that helps you as it did me.
3 races in November?? Sounds ambious, but hey,...go for it! Watch out for Kyptonite!
May the FARTS be with you !
