Bob McQueen - MO - Sunday, 10/7 Update

Men's Board, I wanted to provide you with an update on Bob.  He is no longer at University Hospital in Columbia.  He has been moved to a rehabilitation hospital in St. Louis called Kindred Hospital.   This facility specializes in respiratory rehabilitation and wound care.   He was moved there this past Thursday.  The purpose in moving him to this facility is to wean him off the ventilator.  Interesting thing to note though is in preparation to move Bob, they had him off the ventilator for several hours prior to and during transport and he was breathing on his own and was doing fine.  Once he was at Kindred, they placed him back on the ventilator.  His wife Lori was a bit confused by this, but trusts that the specialists know what they're doing.  It's not known how long he will be in St. Louis.  The average stay ranges 15-20 days and right now they estimate Bob will be there approximately 3 weeks.  In prior updates I had mentioned that Bob "may" be moved to a rehab facility in Mt. Vernon, MO however they would not accept Bob because of his weight.  There maximum weight limit is 350 pounds and Bob weighed 362 the day before they moved him.  Lori was disappointed in this as St. Louis is further away  from home than Mt. Vernon and they have no friends or family in the St. Louis area.  I asked Lori what happens next after he is released from Kindred.  She says that's not yet been determined.  Doctors at Kindred mentioned he may end up going back to University Hospital.  If not, then it's likely he would need to go to an extended care facility to rehab.  Lori says however that Bob has his mind set on going home after he leaves Kindred, but that remains to be seen and depends entirely how he progresses in St. Louis and what the Doctors recommend.  That's the update for now - I will certainly forward more information as I receive it.  At this time, I do not have any contact information or know whether or not there is patient email as was the case at University Hospital.  If I receive contact info, I will let everyone know. You continued prayers and support for Bob, Lori and the rest of the McQueen family are desperately needed and much appreciated. Cards Fan Springfield, MO loseSMART!  loseSTRONG!

Thanks for the update CF.

Bob, Lori and their family will continue to be my prayers. As rough as things are, they are still head and shoulders above where we were over a month ago. Can't wait to see Bob posting here one day. Troy

Thanks for the update.. Bob is still in our prayers.

Your post did bring up an interesting, well... scary thought.  We've all seen certain operations, tests, etc that couldn't be done at a certain size.. but rehab?

If they couldn't take him at 362, makes me wonder what would happen if I have issues.

THANK YOU CARDS FOR THE UPDATE!!!!!! I was hoping that they would be able to move bob back some sooner then later...i know how much of a strain this must be on his wife.  I guess all we can do is just pray and hope that after the 21 days are up...that they might decide to move him home instead of back to the hospital. Thanks CF, for the info I'm sure they've told Lori by now...breathing is a tricky thing, part of the removal of the vent is small times off the machine, to get the lung stronger...if he has worked up to 2 hours that is really good...it all depends on how much he has to work at breathing....it can exhaust someone...and especially if they need to sleep, but have to work to keep breathing, they just get run down....the vent, is to give him all the rest he can to heal.. thanks again...and continued best wishes..
