Just wanted to know out there how long it took some people to return back to work after undergoing a laproscopic or Open RNY bypass.

I had the RNY - I took 2 weeks off, but was really ready in a week. I would recommend at least 2 weeks.

I was losing 1-2 pounds a day!  That really takes it out of you when you try to get back into the swing of things.  What I have seen alot of RNY patients do is try and do 4 hour days to begin with.  After a few days you will be able to see if you can handle a regular day or if you need more time.  Brian

I had surgery on a Monday, came home on Wednesday (lap RNY).  The next week I worked half days from home.  The following week I was back in the office 3 days and worked from home 2.  Then back full.  The first full days at work were pretty tiring. Brian

I had lap RNY on a Monday, back to work (full day) on Friday and never looked back.

I went to work 3 days after my drains were pulled. I would have went sooner but my drains were pulled on  a Thursday, and returning to work on a Friday didn't make sense. If I didn't have drans I personally think I could have went back 3-4 days later. But I have a office job and a personal assistant, so I really would have been physically doing anything more than I would have at home.

I had lap RNY on a Monday and returned full time to my desk the following Monday.  Obviously you're gonna need longer if there's any lifting involved in your job.

I took two weeks off. I could have went back after one. It was in Dec. and if I didn't take the second week they were going pay me for it any way. Matter of fact until recently no one at work even knew I had the surgery.  The second week was boring at the house, only so much TV or web surffing one can do.  On the eight day I drove myself to have my stiches out and he gave me the OK to ride my motorcycle so it got a little less boring.  A lot of it will have to do with what kind of work you do. I am basicly a desk jockey.  pan head

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies.  I help out a struggling uncle right now with his taxi cab.  I work for him and usually give him 80% of what I make since he's just starting out and really needs it.  My day job I've taken a month off to recover, so I'm ok there. I was hoping that 2 weeks would be the maximum I'd be out of commission and it seems about right. Thanks again.

Hello, I work a very physical job, so I took off 2 months. Needless to say, going back was a drag.
