Lifestyle Seems to be Decreasing Hunger (input?)

Oh, I forgot to add that I don't think my calves will ever look like that because of the excess skin from the good old pre-WLS diabetes stricken, balloon like, swollen-up sausage legs. My wife used to call them Fred Flintstone legs since I had no ankles.  I bet I was a year or so away from getting my left leg amputated from the diabetes. I still have big-time scarring from the damage although cycling has certainly help improve the circulation. Chalk up another win for WLS.

Dave, I didn't realize you were getting 2500 calories a day, but with that said your exercise pattern may require more calories. When in full season one of my 118 lifters consumes over 3000 calories just to maintain that weight. Since my surgery I haven't consumed much over 12000 a day until just recently. I'm five months out now and no nausea for a couple of months now. plan to increase my intake, but my mind keeps telling me no. I hope I can get over this mental barrier soon. Good Luck

Hi Gerald,

I'm scheduled to increase my carbs soon to 60 grams a day, so that should put me up to about 3000. I'm sure I'm at a little bit of a deficit, because I'm now getting veins starting to pop out on my upper thighs (not just around the knee). Wish I could find a facility for bodyfat testing. I wonder if there's a chart that tells you your bodyfat based on a visual check (based on veins in abs, legs, etc.?). I'm good at 6-7%, if I'm there, but have no way of testing that accurately.

1200's not too bad, unless you are at a plateau and depending on your level of physical activity. 1600 would probably be better for you. If you're getting in your protein, why not try some Omega 3 fats early morning? The key is not to eat them with carbs (big insulin spike). I think you can eat them with protein without any additional insulin over and above what the protein gives you (if it gives you any at all, depends on the quantity and type of protein - powder and bars tend to produce more insulin = fat storage and hunger).

Powerlifting (I like HIIT) should up your metabolism and endocrine system so that you're geared more toward muscle gain and not just weight loss. Sounds like you're in the right environment for that.

Just use the Omega 3's to up the calories and make sure you're doing the anaerobic exercise and you should get even better results.

Best Wishes,

Dave

i dunno dave, you're eating what i'm eating. i eat a little more junk maybe and go for protein first because everything i eat causes pain! i eat very little and now munch all day because eating causes so much stress to my system. i still lift and do cardio as well. i stay in the same range like Dx does no matter what i eat or do. when on vacation 2 weeks ago all i did was run and kept the same weight. i'm leaving again for lake tahoe this weekend and won't work out again and i bet i come back the same weight. so what i'm getting as it we might have settled into our static weight. give or take 5 pounds due to creatine i've hit my ideal weight i guess. i'm 22 months out now.

i notice you might get a little more fat than i do but other than that we eat about the same. so i don't think anything is wrong on your end and the results are amazing. you look great and fit. as long as you feel well then my opinion is you're ok! as for me, i'm going back to my wls doc this week and see if we can come up with something. i can't eat and i've had the runs for almost three weeks. not good. anyway, this post is about you and i'll just say one more time i think all is well for your diet. just my thoughts......carbonblob

Hi CB,

Thanks, it is nice to achieve that "static weight" = don't have to worry about it that much any more.

Is it the oil causing the runs? The doc was probably right about the fiber alone. Fiber supps are kind of a two edged sword. If the fiber is moving, then all is well, but if the fiber decides to just sit there, then you've got pain.

Have you tried cutting out all of the sugar alcohols? I know if I go beyond one tablespoon of Splenda, I get the runs. Say it's in your protein powder, then you have a couple of servings of SF dessert you could have a recipe for gastro intestinal distress. Then, the added oil intake could exacerbate it.

Just firing off the top of my head. If my "Channeling" were a TV channel, what channel would it be? lol

Hope You Feel Better Soon. Do it up right at Tahoe and do some good healing!

I don't know how you all eat so much!  At 6 weeks out of my RNY, I have a real problem eating practically nothing.  I try to eat mostly high protien foods like chicken and pork, but can only get down  maybe 2 ounces at a meal.  I can eat  beans pretty well, but I don't think I am getting in 1000 calories a day.  Probably less.  Dave,  is this how you were at 6 weeks out?  I get really full really fast, and don't get hungery at all.  I have to eat by the clock.  I have started working out in the Gym.  Right now with a little light cardio, and light weights.  Let me know what you think.   Hey, I was wondering what you thought of the bath houses in Japan.  I went to one when I was in Singapore.  They had women that helped you wash and gave you a massage.  It was great. Hi Kev,

CB and I only drank protein shakes during the day at your stage! ...And we loved it! Ahh...those were the days. Yep, only 1000 calories a day sometimes - like a dream.

No, I would try the flax oil/ pure virgin olive oil  route. You can easily get an extra 400 calories in without even trying. Do it first thing in the morning after you get up. If you're having trouble getting in your calories, then have a protein shake along with it.

Try not to wash the fat away. I usually get in two big glasses of water and my coffee (heavy cream) before the expensive fat and the protein, then the vitamins. I have to do a lot of fast drinking. You should probably have some some nuts or something to help your vitamins absorb better.

They have those bath houses here, too. They offer all of those services and more. Don't think they let foreigners in, though. Hookers here are kind of wimpy, seems to be a job for the weak-minded (guessing). Taking customers who are too "different" from them might create an "awkward" situation.

(Then they've got this concern about size, strength and potentially being forced like a rag doll into some painfully kinky act - These girls can be really waify/ often physically weak. You can imagine how scary a big western guy might appear.)

Best Wishes,

Dave

How do you take the flax oil? I'm not unhappy with the amount I eat, as I am losing a ton of weight.  I guess most people start to wirry that the weightloss will never stop, and the appetite will never increase. I was 317 pounds before my liquid diet prior to surgery on aug 21, and now, 6 weeks tomarrow, I am 255.  I've already gone from a 46 waist to a 40. and XXX to XL.    I do have peanuts and peanut butter as snacks.  I just think I was really overeating before surgery. When I was in Singapore, it was in 1984, I was on an Aircraft Carrier, and when the Navy pulled in, Everything was opened to us.  We were really good at blowing our money.

Hi Kev,

Mayo seems to cover up the flavor (flax oil is just a nice name for linseed oil, what gives oil paints their distinct smell), so I mix it in with chicken salad. I would imagine peanut butter would cover it well too - have some extra oil with your oil?

It does sound like you're doing fine though. The weight loss will stop soon enough on its own. If you're not plateauing I wouldn't worry about it. The flax is just a good way to burn more fat and be more hormonally fit. Some people also take it to lube their colons.

hai Dave Thanks for the tip. I'll wait a while before trying something like that.  My wife already cooks using olive oil.  it seems that things with aby fat content make me feel allttle ill. How did you end up living in japan?  Seems like a nice place to live, although I don't prefer the Asian autos (I am a Ford Employee) Take car and sianara!
