Need some focus help

So I am still waiting to see the surgeon, and I have no idea of how long the process will take after that.  I don't even get to see the Doctor until November. Kaiser has told me that I need to lose 10% of my weight before surgery which would be 41 pounds. So I went all out and I have lost 90 pounds so far. Well I'm starting to have problems maintaining (surprise just like all previous diet attempts)  I am finding that my cravings are coming back and I'm just generally having a hard time maintianing what I have accomplished so far. I have heard the nothing tastes as good as thin feels, but I don't have any personal reference to that.  I guess I'm just looking for some suggestions or motivation or cheerleading. Can anyone share their experience with pre weight loss and what they did to grind through it. Thanks Scott

Scott, I had similar “No reference point.” I had been twice the weight I was supposed to be since the age of 3. I was a fairly successful short-term dieter. I had lost 60 pounds at a time, But never made it down to a size that was close to “ Normal .” At my lowest, I was still a hundred pounds over-weight. I had No idea how much easier my life would be at half my size. It is amazing. I think back now to a life of carrying an extra ‘Me’ around all of the time? How did I ever get out of a chair, let alone climb stairs? I went from 385 (day of Surgery) Down to a range between 179 and 186 (last 3 years.) I don’t know about that- “nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” But everything does taste better from the narrow side of the Booth! Everything doesn’t drop on my medium sized shirt The way it seemed to hit my 4X’ers. 90 pounds? You Rock! Keep pushing at it, vigilantly. Surgery is a hell of a lot easier when you’re at a smaller weight. And even a few pounds can mean a lot of difference. Recovery is certainly easier. (I’ve had surgeries at my top weight, and my lowest.) Hang in there, Knock out as much as you can while waiting. Most have to wait until after surgery to hit that “Tipping Pont” Where it suddenly becomes amazingly possible. Keep up the way you’re going, And you may hit the momentum before you have to be cut. WLS is the “end-game” move. When all else has failed. In your case, it may just be a switching gears to make your Short-term successes, last a life-time. (and if that’s not enough to cheer you?  Also- your Pee-Pee will be longer) Best Wishes- Dx

I too had to lose alot of weight befor eI had the surgery. They wanted me to lose 100 pounds just to have it. I started losing and was doing ok. About 30 pounds down when, BAM, I broke my leg playing softball. I didn't think of it at the time but at 450 and swinging for the fences from my asshole, my legs couldn't take the torque. Laid up for 4 months in a cast I just ate and ordered take out and gained the 30+5 back. Surgery was on the back burner for about a year and I just accepted that I was gonna be fat for the rest of my life because I loved to eat. Then one day it clicked to just lose the weight and have the surgery. So I lost about 55 pounds on my own, knocked on the surgeon's door in September of last year and had the suregery in January of this year. Losing weight sucks balls. What would get me through dieting was thinking fo the little things, shopping in stores that I never thought I would walk into, sitting in Fenway watching the sox and not worrying if my ass would fit in the seat or that the person beside would freak out because had to sit next to the fatty, actually sitting in my seat at gillette stadium for the Pats, chicks actually looking at me because of reasons other than they were disgusted with my look and couldn't take their eyes off of me. Think of the things you want out of the diet; health and judt the little things you can't have or do now, and I promise you will get through it. Yeah and your johnson does get bigger.

Thanks guys,  I know i'm not the only person to have ever had to do this, but it sure feels like it.  Especially in social situations.   Oh well just need to dedicate myself to it all over again.   Thanks again Scott

I was a great dieter...but a terrible maintainer......hence the reason I had the DS...i just needed that extra help.   It only took me about 2 months to have surgery from my inital consultation with my 2nd surgeon (I had gone to the first surgeon but he only performed the lap band and  RNY).....it would have been quicker, but it took forever to get allt he preop testing that I needed done before they would allow me to have surgery.   Scott

90 lbs is a lot! Congrats!

I'm post-op, so I can kill my hunger pretty easily, but this has really worked for me:

Not eating anything three hours before sleeping and going that 10+ hours without any food intake.

I'm on low-carb, so I get up and get in about 4-5 tablespoons of various fats, mostly Omega 3. The sudden intake of calories and the fullness from the fat seem also to take my hunger away.

The theory is, low-carb (less than 20 grams per day) combined with high fat will make you into a lean "fat burner". That said, I limit nearly all of my fat intake to early morning, with afternoon and especially evening being mostly protein and veggies. The evening meal is basically a whey protein shake and salad.

If you're on a regular low-calorie diet or are a diabetic, proceed with caution when it comes to fat intake.

Then, there's the water intake. I'm getting about a gallon of water in a day and feeling better and less hungry because of it. There are so many health benfits from the water, it's definitely something you don't want to skip.

Hope this Helps,

Dave
