Thank you all, Sorry for the delay in reply, no computer time this weekend. One thing I remember above all of the internet chatter, A former co-worker retired and turned up having bladder cancer. The Dr. 's first question to him: "Do you drink a lot of diet soda?" Kind of makes you think a bit. I guess as with all things, moderation is the answer. All my best, Chris

Splenda is good stuff.  I am reasonably confident of its safety (more so than of the chemicals in my Chinese-made clothes, for example), and it tastes good. For people that have problems with it, it should be noted that while sucralose is noncaloric, Splenda has calories.  Splenda is a blend of sucralose and dextrose, the latter added because sucralose itself is very sweet and needs to be cut so that it "measures like sugar" .  The dextrose is fluffed to make it bulky, but the resultant combination has about the same number of calories per gram as sugar (though it weighs much less per cup).  So, for example, "a cup of SPLENDA® Granular has 96 calories and 24 grams of carbohydrates, compared to the 770 calories and 192 grams of carbs found in a cup of sugar." If you are adding Splenda to your coffee, the calories are negligible.  But if you are drinking Cool-Aidor baked goods made with Splenda, you could get sugar dumping from the dextrose at that volume.  Unfortunately, there is no consumer-available version of sucralose without the dextrose added.  However, products premade with the Splenda logo, like diet soft drinks and 4C, for example, don't have the dextrose added, and therefore are actually non-caloric.
