Hey there, I hope this isn't inappropriate but I was wondering if any of you could help us raise funds for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. My 10-year old daughter, Sarah, and I have been doing pretty well so far selling LiveStrong bracelets outside a couple of local bike shops although the pace has been slow. I promised her that her old man would “kick it up a notch” thus the request.  I met these guys at a LiveStrong biking event and they are a passionate and caring group to say the least. It’s a great organization to support, especially for those of us who have children in this age group.  If you see fit, let me know how much you could contribute. Thanks much and my apologies if this solicitation is inappropriate for the locker room.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults needs your help. You may not realize this, but approximately 65,000 young adults in their 20’s and 30’s are diagnosed with cancer every year. Cancer remains the leading disease killer among 20-39 year olds. Compounding the problem, young adults are uninsured at twice the rate of adults. Young adults going through cancer treatment have an inadequate amount of support on every front: medical, psychological, and financial.

Doug Ulman is a three-time cancer survivor and national cancer survivorship advocate. After overcoming chondrosarcoma during his sophomore year in college and malignant melanoma twice since, Doug founded the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults in 1997. In 2001, Doug joined the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) as director of survivorship and today serves as the Foundation's president.

For over 10 years, as a result of generous contributions made by companies, foundations and individuals such as yourself, the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults has been able to carry out its mission to provide support programs, education and resources, free of charge, to benefit young adults, their family and friends, who are affected by cancer, and to promote awareness and prevention of cancer.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults was one of the first and largest organizations that offered a comprehensive approach to supporting the young adult cancer community. Its unique initiatives have helped establish numerous partnerships with nationally recognized organizations and institutions such as The American Cancer Society, Johns Hopkins Cancer Center, the National Cancer Institute, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, just to name a few.

I realize you get requests from literally hundreds of charitable causes each year however I hope you can support this cause with a donation. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible and will be used to help accelerate support programs and educational resources for young adults affected by cancer.

Let me know if you’re able to support the cause. With the generosity of people like you, young adults with cancer will no longer be underserved!! Thanks

Terry Baldwin
