The Triple-Beast Progress Update!

Been awhile guys, so first of all.... Hi EVERYONE!!!   I'm so happy to sign on and see that the latest news about our friend Bob is good. I always have apprehensions these days when signing in after a time away from the forum because I'm worried I'll see something negative about Bob's progress. Okay!  Let's see!  Next Friday will make it three months since RNY. What a journey so far!  When I started, my belt just barely grabbed the last hole closest to the end of the belt  with a struggle and a tug... and now I'm at the opposite spectrum. The last hole on the other end and I think I need to drill a couple more holes very soon. I haven't bought any new jeans yet, and these are beginning to look like a tent on me. I was out of work  from 6/24- 9/15 because of the strenuous profession that I'm in, and when I finally returned, jaws dropped to the floor in amazement. I started out 5'11" tall, and that hasn't changed, but my weight of 284lbs. starting has decreased by 70lbs. already. I only want to lose 100lbs., so the fears that I expressed to my Surgeon's Asst. about losing too much weight post-op will probably come to pass. My protein and water intake still leaves alot to be desired, and my primary Doctor told me the other day that I'm very dehydrated and my red blood count is way too high. He suggested going back on the CPAP to see if that helps. My body still may be Oxygen starved during sleep even though I'm resting fine without the machine. I've laid off the walking for about a month now because I frankly just didn't stick with it !  I don't have alot of energy. (*see above statement concerning water and protein intake being way too low) I'm on zero medications now, and my blood sugar, BP, cholesterol, are all at normal levels now. Don't forget that I'm a diabetic, so that means alot to me!  I hope you all are fine! Take Care,       "The Beast!"

Hi Beast,

Glad to hear you're off the diabetes meds.

Sounds like you are at a similar weight to me. I'm 5'9 and after my pre-op loss I was 262. You won't necessarily lose too much weight, however with insufficient protein and exercise, you may experience some wasting or get an emaciated look.

If the protein is difficult to get in, just mix a dose of the powder with a small quantity of water and swallow it quickly, as you would with cough syrup. Then, wait a good long while to drink any water (but do drink a lot of water!).

I'm a little concerned that you may be damaging your body, with coming off diabetes and not getting enough protein or water. Hope you're getting the necessary vitamins, particularly the B's! Effects may not show until years down the road.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Thanks for the information Dave!   I'll have to make sure and get more protein + water!  The prognosis if I don't doesn't sound too healthy. Maybe you're right about  me not losing too much weight, but I'm really not that concerned about it at this point. It's when I start looking too gaunt and people start telling me that is when it bothers me. I've gone on 2 major crash diets in my adult life in which I lost weight at about the same rate as I am now before WLS... but only to gain it all back with interest and a very fu*ked up and slow metabolism as a result.
