Good Morning, I have been lurking around the forums for a while and found the mens forum this evening. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself My name is Jon and I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. My surgery is scheduled for 10:00AM Monday morning September 24. I am having a lap rny. My surgery is at Alexian Brothers and being performed by Dr Peter Rantis. I have spent the majority of this evening reading trying to follow the posts about Bob and his complications. It is a sobering reminder about the fact that this is a major procedure. I know this however two days from my surgery I am not sure that I needed to go down this road of reading. The silver lining I guess is reading DX's posts regarding his complications and the fact that he would do it all over again inspite of his complications. At 406 lbs with diabetes, sleep apnea and borderline blood pressure I think that the risks are outweighed by the potential benifits for me.  I will definately say a prayer for bob this evening.  I will definately write those letters to my 8 year old son and 20 month old daughter in case of a potential negative outcome. I had been thinking that that was thinking negatively.  Any last minute insights or must dos before the big day?  I look forward to becoming more involved on the forum. Jon

Keep in mind that Bob is the exception and not the norm...and it's also VERY IMPORTANT to remember that Bob's issues ARE NOT directly related to his WLS.  It is true the trauma of surgery was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak, but his WLS was successful - his pouch is healing and functioning as it should and the bypass is also fully functioning with no issues. There are risks with any surgery, but the complication rate with WLS is low and improving all the time. Last minute advice:  Rest and relax.  Think about the benefits the surgery will provide and give yourself one last mental kick in the tail and make that commitment to following the rules and taking full advantage of the surgery.  Until you walk down the path, it's difficult to appreciate just how much life will change...but I can tell you, as well as many here in the Locker Room can, it's a truly amazing journey. Think positive and spend quality time with your family today! Best wishes! Cards Fan loseSMART!  loseSTRONG!

CF got it covered.  Focus on why you are doing this.  Looking at all of the posts on this board will show you what others have experienced.  Have a great day together with your family today and all the best for the surgery. Check back in with us when you get home. Always room on the losers bench for another "loser".  Making room as I type. Take care, Brian

Please Keep Bob, Lori, and family in your Prayers.

Hi Jon, I want to wish good luck on the surgery - I had my lap rny done two weeks ago today and have lost 25 lbs so far. It is normal to have the doubts and concerns but brother let me tell you there is no greater feeling than when you break the 300 lb barrier. My next goal is to break the 275 lb barrier.  Hang in there and when you get back home from the hospital, you will have to take your spot on the bench with the rest of us "Losers".
