scales woes

This week was not a good weigh in for me.  In the first few weeks the weight just melted off, 7lbs a week.  This week and it was only 4.  And that was in the begining of the week.  I weighed myself on Tuesday and today I'm the same weight.  It's a little frustrating because these last few days I've really been doing well.  Have actually gotten in all my protein and been exercising every day.  Maybe it's just my body adjusting to everything. Hopefully next week will be better results. ...dave

Dave, you really have to take a longer view of things.  Take a look at my profile, at the bottom ("My Story") to see a chart of my week-to-week changes.  After six great weeks, week seven I lost less than a pound.   I've had a half dozen other weeks <1 since, in a stretch of less than twenty weeks, including two straight at one point and even a small gain.  But here I am in my 26th week and I'm probably going to lose 5+ for the week, and I'm down nearly 110 overall since surgery (and 135 since mid-February). With 16 pounds lost in the last 4 weeks, I have no reason to worry things will stop anytime soon. The general trend is each week will be slower than the one before; that's just reality as your calorie deficit gets smaller each week, and necessary so that you can ease into your stable weight.  But it's a bumpy ride along the way, And things can easily vary +/- 6 pounds week to week.  If your calories are low (but not too low), you're getting your protein, and you're exercising, just have the confidence that things have to yield in the long run.

Thanks, I know there are ups and down during weight loss and the scale isn't alway kind.  I was just on a roll and then slowed up, so it made me a little upset.  Just hoping next week I'll be back on losing more.

Dave, I’m with Ard on this. Think Long range. It’s a set of stair-steps down the scale, Not a straight slide. Most experience a stall around the third to 4th week Due to glycogen stores replenishing. Weigh as you feel best, but track the numbers Over longer spans of time to get a real sense Of the losses. One may "Average" 1 pound a day, even if the scales show no loss for two weeks, then 30 pounds over the next two. Yes? Breathe. Check to see if you are "accidentally" consuming Too many Calories. (some people find fitday.com very helpful) And if not? Then wait for it. Bariatric Surgery Does, in fact, Work- (As long as you are following the doctor's orders.) Pure and simple. Otherwise NO Insurance, Anywhere, EVER, Would have forked over 2 cents for it. Yes? Hang in there, and enjoy the ride! Best Wishes- Dx

Dave, You and I are the same here. I have been told by many people that scales should be put in the closet as we have many "stalls". My surgery was on 8/30 so you and I are on the same schedule. I was 342 and am 301 today down from 349 the week prior to surgery. I had a 6 day stall where I actually put 1 pound on. I was weighing my self daily, finally the GF took my scale from me. I plan on not weighing myself again until 10/10 when I go see my surgeon. I too am exercising daily and getting my protein ... I think we will be fine.

Dave -

I went through the same thing. I dropped fast at first, then slow, then fast again. Three things I can say are
1. - TRY not to take the day to day weigh in's to heart. I know they say dont weight urself EVERYDAY, btu I know it's hard not to. If you do, do not take it to heart. Pick one day to do it each week and go by that.
2. - I know when I started to exercise there was a slower weight lioss at first, then when the body got adjusted, it started to come off.
3. - Like stated in an earlier reply - look at the long term picture. You have to realize that 4 or 7 or 10 or 3 a week is still a loss. They all add up.

Keep it up and hold your head up.

I agree with all the info already posted.  For myself, I do weigh every day but it's more habit than anything.  some days it's the same, some an increase and some go down.  I only "count" one weigh in a week (always the same day at the same time).  Usually it's been down.  However, I know there are times that it can increase or stay the same.  I hold myself accountable for doing what I am supposed to.  If I am doing everything I'm supposed to then I assume it's my body adjusting to previous losses.  I usually notice an extra notch on the belt or other clothes feeling more loose.  Only I know if I've been "good". As you said, you've had a good week.  Keep it up.  If you've been watching the weekly weigh in post you can see that everyone is different.  Some hit stalls or plateaus (we all wiill at some point), but if you look at the numbers over time, they are going in the right direction and helping us move into our new lives. Best of luck, Brian

Please Keep Bob, Lori, and family in your Prayers.
