Ken Are you sure at 150lbs you want to lose more weight?   I am sure someone on the board has a link to how to kick yourself into ketosis, but are you sure you need to?  I had surgery a few days ahead of you at the same starting weight (my height is 5'6") and today I am at 176 - need to lose about 10 more plus about 10 lbs of skin.  I can't imagine weighing less than 155-160.  Obviously we are all built different, I guess I am just in awe of your success.  Way to go. All the best Chris

What I did to start my diet was to eat lean proteins only.  Basically you have to keep your carbohydrate intake below 20g for several day to start it off.   Eggs meats (chicken, tuna, ham, turkey, beef) Green leafy vegetables Cheeses Peanut butter Almost anything sugar-free if no other carbs exist. If you do have carbs, they need to be complex...whole grain... no simple sugary/refined carbs.  You can add more fat into your diet as long as stay below the carb limit and you don't go overboard on the fat intake... like don't go over 60g-70g (540-630 calories) if possible.  Your protein count should be around 180-200g (720-800 calories).  If you do this for about 3-5 days in a row... you'll go into lipolysis/ketosis... you'll drop huge amounts of water when it happens... so make sure you consuming atleast 80-100oz of water daily... your kidneys will thank u.  You also might consider increasing your B Complex/B12 intake during this stage and your multi-vitamin.  One of the draw backs, especially for RNY, is flushing out your electrolytes during this process which your body will have reactions to.... extreme tiredness, weakness, unable to hold, squeeze or lift things. Now if you start getting weak or huge mood swings, you should consider increasing your carb intake in 10g increments.  Extended periods of time in ketosis can cause dehydration if you're not careful, but it's a great way to kick off a stall during weight loss. I lost 24 pounds in 30 days but as started to add more carbs into my diet, it slowed... I'm only down 25 pounds at the start but it's been 43 days total... but I stalled about a week ago and now its coming off again (i'm still pre-op).  I am planning another ketosis session next week depending on how my follow-ups go today with the dietician.   BTW, this is the foundation behind atkins diet, so if you need recipe ideas and stuff, check our their website.   Good luck

Thanks for you kind words, Chris I am 5-9 and go from 150 to 160 and sometimes to 165. It does sound weird that I want to lose more weight. I remember when I was in ketosis how great I felt. How much more energy and motivation I had. I might have used a "little drugs" in my youth but I tell you the best high I ever had is when I was in ketosis. The more weight I lose the better I feel. I lost of lot of muscle also and need to bulid up. Being in ketosis will give me the energy and motivation to hit the weights. Thanks Ken

Hi Ken,

Why don't you try some of the bodybuilding type diets. They are great for losing bodyfat and not necessarily weight. I'm seeing new veins pop up every week on the Natural Hormonal Enhancement Diet by Faigin www.extique.com All it is is low carb, with unlimited carbs during double evening meals on Wednesday and Sunday. After about 6 weeks of 30 grams carb, you can go on to 60 grams and even carb load every other day to maintain.

This is the most reputable of the bodybuilder diets. I can't find a negative review anywhere.

Best Wishes,

Dave
