Wow this is weird............ I gained 10 lbs(350) in a week as of wednesday . I havent done anything different than I have been.   Still nothing different I weigh today and it went back down  but still shows 6 lb (344)gained. Beginning to wander about this scale!! It is accurate to 2% it says . But it has been  pretty accurate as of late(prior to this week) Any suggestion MEN?? I have been hiking 3 miles per day. Eating about 800-1000 cal per day. Would weight lifting help???

Take care

Dont agonize over it. It might be nothing more than water retention. I gained 5 lbs since my surgery yesterday AND I KNOW that I havent eaten anything other than liquids. Stay the course. I bet it'll be gone real soon. Maybe you had something with a bit more sodium in it?

BB,

Plateaus and brief high weight gains are about as common as people who've had WLS procedures on this board. Almost everyone experiences them at one time or another, and for seemingly no reason at all. So don't worry too much.

As for the weights (anaerobic activity?) question...

Yes, weight lifting or other anaerobic activity raise your metabolism. My understanding is that steady state activity does not. So you might add resistance training and then replace a couple of your hikes with an activity which, after a 10 minute warmup (warm up until you start sweating), takes you to a level of exertion which is difficult to maintain for more than 20-30 seconds. Then, drop back to the level of exertion of an easy jog for 1-2 minutes and repeat 8 times. If you go any longer than 8 reps or 30 seconds, you may unconsciously begin to pace yourself and lose intensity and some of the benefits that the intensity brings (like, metabolism and growth hormone).

Check the safety post links and other interval training info in the post links at the top of my profile. These are about not doing too much at the start and about not getting injured.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Bubba - First, don't fret it. Second, what kind of scale is it? If it's the good old spring scale, then yeah, it may be busted.  If it's digital....check the battery. Regardless....we are all going to yo-yo a bit.  Don't freak out about it just consider it a subtle reminder that this is a tool that must be worked.  It's not a magic cure.

BB, Not to worry. There’s about a 10lb. wiggle room that accounts for water No matter what you do. Just keep on going. It’s not a straight slide down. More like stairs. Many people hit some weeks of slowed loss along the way. Best Wishes- Dx

You're probably not about to get your period, huh?  This happens to me EVERY damn month.  I'm sure you'll drop the ten just as quickly as they hopped on.
