OT?: Rad, Dudes, I made an Indo Board (good exercise)
Hey Fellows,
Just made a balance tool called an Indo Board. This was originally to improve my running form and speed while doing HIIT, but it turned into a huge endorphin stimulator. I couldn't get off the thing for an hour.
I made mine out of 3/4 oak ply and a much smaller 4 inch wooden dowel. My board is about twice as wide and a little shorter. It's great if you're getting bored with your current routine:
(Be sure to read all of the safety precautions. Mine is much lower to the ground, so the board hits the floor before it can throw me off. The 2 inch catch strips on the ends are also a necessity!)
Best Wishes,
Dave
You’ll be Surfer Dave in No Time! Friends of my son use a variation on that. Upside down skate board with only two of the wheels And another "wheel-less" skate board on top of it. The ‘rolling fulcrum’ then stays stationary But the flex of the wheels allows side to side drift. Their "Goal" is to get it all the way around as they slip back and forth. Sometimes they have a full length of board going Across the wheels, sometimes jus the narrow. I know that makes little sense… I would have to draw a picture…. No time! Take care and don’t bust your azz! Best Wishes- Dx
Hi Dx,
It's true, one physical activity seems to get me interested in another and then another. I don't know why this is so fun. Maybe, just like with a computer game, you have to focus or "get wiped out", then there must be some bizzarre nerve stimuli going on there too (?!)
Sounds like your son and his friends are pretty high level. Small rollers do make it a little easier to balance, but then have to depend totally on the board motion (wheels stay in one place and board moves) sounds really hard.
So far, I can only rock back and forth and have to step off from loss of balance about every minute or so. Actually standing on the board with both feet *over* the rollers or standing on the board in skate board position are things I haven't tried yet.
But am enjoying even the simple movement and stance that I'm doing. I'm trying to make a bigger roller now, but I'm finding with that the rubber grip is even more important. Without that, the board starts to revolve on the roller, which combined with the height, could equal busted azz.
Really gotta be careful,
Dave
