home from hospital with repaired hernia and one less body part

i just came home yesterday after surgery friday afternoon... had an internal hernia and a good portion of my small bowel was stuck thru it. he was able to get that all put together in a good way. he also took out my gall bladder which was inflamed and had sludge and small stones.
the postop pain seems worse than with the bypass.
nonetheless, i'm planning on flying back to montana on thursday. home will be good.

Glad to hear things went smoothly.  Hope things continue to do so for the trip home.

This may sound like a dumb question, but how did you know something was wrong?

excruciating pain.  took awhile to figure, but i could have cured myself without surgery if i just never ate solid food again.  guess that wasn't a really good option. after having a bunch of tests in montana where i just moved, i finally called the surgeons in portland and they diagnosed me over the phone.  stomach pain that got worse with food, and pain that referred into the middle of my back.  they said classic signs of an internal hernia.   i actually got very lucky that i didn;t damage my bowel. now if i could just take a good dump everyone will be happy. joe

Glad things went good.  I had my lap band on Monday and they found a hiatal hernia and repaired it.  The surgeon asked if I had heart burn.  Yep I have been having more heart burn lately.  He said it should be fixed now and have no problems.  So having the lap band saved me from maybe another surgery later on.  Shane
