I bought some at the store last night and added to my shake to see what it would be like.  I purified it so it just made the shake a little thicker.  No taste a little carb and protien but it was LITE and no added sugar?

Anyone use it?

Never even thought of it As something that would possibly have sugar in it. I use it as a "Meat Substitute." I like tofu, but can’t have a lot of soy stuff.  Just some. It skews the tests for my blood clotting factor. I’m on Coumadin for an Artificial Heart Valve, And have to keep my clotting factor low. The soy doesn’t actually change my blood clotting times But it causes the tests to show false readings. It looks like my blood is Way too thin, when it’s not. I use the Extra-Firm Tofu. Set it out on paper towels to get some more water out of it. And fast fry it in olive oil with lots of spices. I also add the extra firm to soups and such. Extra protein that absorbs the flavor of what ever it’s in. High Protein, Low Fat, Good Eats. And for folks just starting back on solid foods after surgery It is softer. Easier to sit well on a new pouch. Best Wishes- Dx

I love tofu and eat it regularly.  But I never tried to puree it. There is an Asian seafood and tofu soup that is really great and has a lot of protein (crab, shrimp, egg, tofu, and veggies).

Recipe for the soup? Yeah use tofu in stir frys and thought of blending it in a shake but once I get a scoop and a half of powder 30g and the milk 5 gand maybe a tbs of peanut butter that brings me to 40g. great idea though.

Tom, I don't have a recipie for the soup.  I eat out a lot and look for it on the menu at Asian restaurants.  It is fairly common.  You might have to ask them to leave out the noodles or rice though.  They tend to expand in my pouch.

I add extra firm tofu to my salads. As Dx said: "Extra protein that absorbs the flavor of what ever it’s in." In my case, it absorbs the taste of whatever low fat salad dressing I'm using so taste is not an issue.  I can get it on sale for a buck and the shelf life is pretty good so no problem there.  To quote Dx and my favorite Food Network Chef, Alton Brown: High Protein, Low Fat, Good Eats.  Boner

The answer is yes ...but. There is no reason a WLS patient can't eat soy or soy products...they are a complete protein, meaning, unlike most vegtable protein, it supplies a full compliment of essential amino acids.  Tofu  in itself, is normally low in fat, high in protein, low in carbs.  Tofu/soy also has been promoted in the recent past as a good source of soy which helps heart health.  Here's the BUT.... If you are a man, and are weight lifting to build bulk.....tofu is not really a great source of protein.   body builders avoid the stuff, it has an estrogen effect on the body...and has been linked with causing early onsets of puberty in young women, and breast development in young men.  So is it a good source of protein, is a good source of protein for men?  Maybe maybe not. I had it tonight in split pea soup.....the "silken" word well as a thickener. The more you drain it the thicker it will make stuff. I have had the "firm' that had been marinated in barbque sauce and grilled  on Kabobs...it was really good......I think it is a good somewhat "invisible" way to boost protien...I also have a friend (who I will call) Who made an AWSOME chocolate pudding with Tofu and cocoa...I will post it when I get it from her.....
