What were you doing on 9-11-01

For some on this board I could ask where where you when Lincoln was shot and get some very detailed answers.  For most of us that is not the case.   I was in the correctional academy at the time.  Like most people in the northeast, I remember a crystal clear day with a bright blue sky.   Rumors started around our 9:30 coffee break about a plane flying into a tower.  The first time I saw any footage was at lunch in the gym where they set up two TV's for us.  I sat there in disbelief with tears in my eyes.  The rest is history but they would not let us go early and we had to learn about blood born pathogens later that afternoon.  What a great learning day.  I thought after seeing the towers fall that there had to be 100,000 dead.   Anyway, what were you doing?

I was at home doing some work in prep for a business trip.  I was supposed to fly at 1pm.  I had the TV on in the background and watched in disbelief as the plane****  My wife and neighbors wife tried to talk me out of flying that day but I needed to go on this trip.  Shortly thereafter all flights were grounded so it didn't matter. It wasn't until a few days later that I realized a friend of mine had been in the towers and was lost. It was a tough day.   I also remember seeing the first plane come across the sky a few days later.  It seemed so strange. BRian

I was just coming out from teaching a scene painting class. One of my colleagues had heard the first incident on the radio And pulled a TV out of the Props storage and hooked it up. We stood there glued to the coverage as the second plane hit. Total shock.  About 30 students crammed into our offices And watched and called friends on cell-phones. I heard- “Are you seeing this?” repeated over a hundred times it seems. Dismissed all classes for the day even as some Hadn’t yet heard any news at all.  I was scheduled to fly to Portland 2 days later. I went on the first plane that was allowed to take off Later that week.  It was almost empty. Very surreal. Best Wishes- Dx

I had just started a weeks vacation that morning...feeding the little ones getting ready to start the day and I turned on the TV to see the first tower smoking.  At the time, no one knew what was truly happening and that it was the result of terrorist attack. I'll never forget that day...never.  Shortly after I was called in for work and was on an emergency conference call and one of the call participants let out a yell as he watched an airliner heading for the Pentagon from his office window in Pentagon City. I remember holding my 4-year old son rocking back and forth with tears in my eyes as I watched the towers come down.  Some people either refuse to believe it or do not realize...the world as we knew it DID change that day and will never be the same again. God Bless America!

I like so many was at work.  After we heard the news of the first plane hitting, I figured that something had gone wrong and that this was a terrible accident - then of coarse it wasn't.  It was a terrible tragedy. I was in Atlanta  at that time and it was so quite that evening at home when I was outside walking the dog.  We lived about 25 miles from the Atlanta airport and all day long planes were taking off from ATL or just about to land and they were always over our house, not loud, but just there and you could hear them a little.  I guess with everyone inside watching TV that evening and no planes in the air except a few fighter jets from nearby Airforce Base in Marietta, GA , it was just so incredibly quite.  I was born and raised in NY, but only knew one person that worked at the Towers, he was up out of the Subway when the 1st plane hit and immediately crossed into Brooklyn as so many others did.   A few weeks after 9/11 I flew home to NY and landed in Newark , as usual you could see the NY Skyline, but this time it wasn't the same.  It was like looking at someone who just had there 2 front teeth knocked out, obviously something was missing. I too was scheduled to fly later that week on 9/16 to Orlando for a trade show that was ultimately cancelled. We will never forget. GOD BLESS !! Chris

A colleague and I were training faculty at the college where I work.  I stopped back to my office on a break and someone told me two planes had hit the WTC.  Having never considered the possibility before, I assumed we were talking about small planes perhaps an air show.  Back in training we were told what had happened and where the televisions were being set up.  We stood and watched for hours long side staff, faculty, and students.  Everybody was in disbelief, most of us crying when the towers fell.  Those whose cell phones were still working (systems were jammed) were letting others call their family and friends.  They eventually closed the college and sent everyone home.  It was eerie not seeing any planes in the sky on the way home.  The whole day is one I will never forget. God Bless America!

I saw the first crash live on TV and called my mother-in-law.  Then I called my own mother because my nephew worked one block from the WTC and I thought he took the PATH train into the basement of the towers. I later found out that my nephew actually went to work by ferry.  But, he was in his office and actually saw the 1st jet fly by and crash into the WTC.  He said that the other workers then went to the windows but that he left the office and started walking uptown.   Because of the problems with cell phones and the overloading of the phone lines, his parents didn't find out that he was o****il several hours later. By the way, he quit that job a year later and went to Duke Law School.  He graduated in June and is now a clerk for a federal judge in Denver.

I was in World Finacial  Center 1.   I will never forget it.  I can remember it like it was yesterday.  1st plane hit we evacuated... 2nd plane hit ran for our lives in disbelief.  I still think about it almost daily. adam

I was sitting in my offfice contemplating how I was going to fire this worker who seldom was on time. When it flashed on MSN internet news that a Small plane crashed into A Tower, then it was reported a larger plane then both towers. So I sat in shock throughout the entire day. I never did approach the man I was about to fire, It really seemed insignificant........Week or so passed and I noticed the guy wasnt late, then monthassed same result. So I spoke to him and I asked him how things were going etc. He said that that one  incident changed his life , things meant something to him. It was like he had a purpose. I have since retired from that company and found out the he was made President of the company last month.  God works in mysterious ways

Take care
God Bless

I was in a meeting at work.  One of the secretarys came in and told us the news.  After the meeting broke up, I went back to one of my colleague's offices and watched in horror on the tv.  I remember strong feelings of anger.  I also felt sadness for those in the towers.  My city is about 2 hours west of New York by car.  So I also wondered if we would have attacks here as well.   Fortunately, we have not had any attacks in the US since.  But the world is not the same.
