What would you be doing if you were still pre-op?

I was *****ing the other day at work about not running as much as I wanted this summer because the heat really killed me when I did.  I mentioned that I ran an 8 mile loop that felt really good because it was cool.  The guy looked at me like I was nuts because he knew me before surgery.  Needless to say, that convercation would not have happened without the surgery.  That got me thinking about what I would have been doing had I not had the surgery. I would not be tying my shoes, running, dating, building rock walls, clearing brush or a hundred other things that I have begun to take for granted.  There is still a struggle with food but having had a stable weight for about a year I must be doing something right. How about you.  How would your life be different had you not had the surgery?

No surgery, I am quite certain I would be pushing up daisies right now.  It was getting scary before WLS as it was.  Heart skipping beats and getting unable to function much at all.  What a turn-around in my lfe.  No doubt a second chance or extention on the original lease.

I would be eating a lot more and I would still be 350 pounds or more, not the 229 I am today. I would still be wearing the CPAP, have high blood pressure. My borderline diabetes probably wouldn't be borderline anymore. I wouldn't be able to exercise anytime I feel like it.  I also feel I eat too much periodically, but I'm still losing weight so I also must be doing something right. I never come close to eating what I did before RNY though. Maybe we just get used to the smaller portions, then when we eat a bit more than usual, we think we're overdoing it.  Interesting post Scott!  Ron

I agree with Joe I would most likely be 6 feet (and 10 feet wide) under. With all my health problems I was a heart attack or something away from the big sleep. Now I am back to being able to do things I haven’t been able to do since high school. For me the difference since surgery is sometimes almost unbelievable, I had my doubts in the beginning with some of the complications I had, but now I would do it all over again in a heart beat.

Pretty easy answer.  I don't think I would be paying my bills, since I wouldn't be around to get the mail.  The reason I had the surgery is that I didn't think I would have survived these four years.   I used to go to bed wondering if I would wake up in the morning, now I just enjoy the morning air. I like you don't take anything for granted anymore.   Rob

I'd still have diabetes and with my herniated discs, I would be fighting the government to try go on disability.

I'm sure I'd have borderline high blood pressure by now, if I hadn't managed to yo-yo down to a thin weight on my own, wouldn't be able to exercise as intensely (wouldn't enjoy it or recover as quickly between sets or sprints) and my students wouldn't give me nearly as high a classroom evaluation as they do now.
