crazy cramps when running

i started jogging recently and i get really bad cramps .  thing is i dont feel to tired or out of breath but the cramps are so bad i have to stop running and walk a bit till they calm down then run again.  any ideas why this happens or what i can do to prevent this. adam

Are we talking leg type cramps or like a stomach cramp. Muscle cramps need water and potassium.  I typically drink around 100 oz a day to help there. Stomach cramps could be caused by a lack of deep breathing.  Every 4 or 5 breaths, exhale as much as you can to get everything out of your lungs.  This will force you to get new oxygen in your lungs.

its stomach cramps.  and i tried the breathing thing and it is soooo much better.  thanks.  i started at 1/2 mile and now im up to over 2 miles per run.  i know its not alot but its the most i have evwer been able to run.
