August Finish Line - 50 Mile Challenge
Howdy Gents.
Man, running is harder than I expected. Two weeks in and I'm at a 10 minute per mile pace (how do you do it Floyd?) Anyways. I'll keep at the training and see where it will take me.
Miles completed July: 157 (58 cycling)
Miles completed through August 15: 100.5 (50.5 cycling)
Miles completed through August 31: 24.5 (8 cycling)
Total Miles August: 124
Percent of month completed: 100%
Percent towards 50 mile goal completed: 248%
Percent towards personal 120 mile goal completed: 104%
No mileage goals for me for September. Just looking to keep at the running program and to not keel over at any point.
Would love to hear how you ended August! Stronger Everyday.

Miles for the month: 90
(goal was 80 but I had 60 half way and 30 the secnod half. 43 days to 10K)
Sept Goal; 100 mi and improved 10K time - 60 mins or less by end of month
The August mileage inlcudes walking, walking/jogging, jogging, and HIIT walk/jog/sprint workouts.
The HIITs are really helping improve my time and I figured it our by accident. The pain from the HIIT workout days was killer the first two weeks, then after a 3 day break and getting back into a walking day followed by a distance day, I did a HIIT workout that took a twist. Instead of sprinting the back 100 yards, I walked a .25 mi lap and jogged 4 (for a mile) and did that 4 times. That totaled 5 miles so I did a 6th mile where I walked the curves and faster jogged/slow sprinted the straights. I finished in 1 hr 10 mins for my fastest 10K time to-date,...and I thought I wasn't seeing any progress???? GO figure. I was shocked and amazed.
Last night I went back to the walk a lap, jog a lap warmup, then jog the front 100 yards, walk the curve, sprint the back 100 yards, walk the curve for 8 laps; 2 miles, then 1 cool-down lap, bleacher stairs; 5 sets twice, and ending with a 4 lap/1mile cool-down walk.
Thats what I'm doing; easy day, distance day, HIIT day, repeat; with an occasionally day ot two missed that I need to fix. I plan to go to a easy day HIIT day, distance day, HIIT day, off day; repeat.
Any corrective guidance is appreciated.
Thanks for the followup and keeping us honest Dan.
Good job Dan.
I completed 45.1 miles in August. I was on vac for 10 days and gone another weekend out of state for a wedding so I knew it was going to be tough.
I am only running 2-3 miles at a time know because I am not trying loss any more weight so I do run just to warm up before I work out. But I should still get to 50 in Sept. I do have 2 5k's I am going to run and possibly a third so that will help get me there. August was first month in the challenge and I like it because it gives me incentive to try for the goal and to keep running.
I am contemplating a 10k in the future and if I do i will have to up the miles I run and maybe one month change my goal to 75-100 miles.
Good luck everybody,
Greg
