Ima coffee/caffine junkie....
My surgeon insisted that we give up coffee and tea for the six months because it blocked your body from absorbing iron. After those six months, we went back to drinking decaf only. It's like everything you hear about WLS, depends on the doctors, but it seemed to work for us. It's hard to give up everything at once, but it's all about choices. For six months, I gave up alot, stuck to 500-600 calories a day and lost my 140 pounds in about 6 months. Nowadays is a different story. I'm not a huge runner like AJ, Scott, and Dan, but I enjoy doing the 5Ks once in awhile. Something I couldn't do a year ago. Good luck on your journey.

I didn;t think teenagers like you drank coffee....opps must the the soy latte from starbucks....
I DRINK A LOT OF COFFEE AFTER surgery...never did before...now i want a robust flavor...that you jus don;t get from crystal lite...
a man can only give up so much....
but f you drink a lot now...you may get a caffeine headache when you quite...so it may be best to do it before surgery

I think I'll try to get off the coffee before. Just waiting to hear on my insurance then get a surgury date. When I get a date it's go time, so I'll try and wean down until then.

Jack,
I feel ya with the daily coffee. One month before surgery my doctor said to lay off caffine. The caffine ban lasted until 3 months after surgery, for me. At that time, my nut told me it was ok in moderation (6-8 oz. per day). I'm not sure if this has happened to others or not, but I would get really high from just the 8 ozs. of coffee in the morning. The getting high lasted for quite a few months. I'm not sure why because before surgery I never got a high from caffine, not like these were anyway.
I'm not sure that caffine affected my weight loss, better or worse. I started at 351 and have lost 120 pounds in a little over 12 months. I exercise, but could probably do better. I watch what I eat most of the time. Always sugar free, sort of low carb.
I'm not sure if this information is helpful. Just thought I would chime in.

Well this is gonna suck bug time but Im going to do it, off the coffee, quit the chew, liquid diet, protien shakes, exercise, tons of water. what ever it takes Im gonna do it. I'll be shaking like a leaf on a windy day walking into surgury but Im gonna do it. I'm just waiting for the call. When I get the date, I stop allthought I've really already started. Wish me luck.
