I went in for my surgery Tuesday morning.  When I got up, I showered with "Hibiclens".  I then looked into the mirror, and decided that I should shave the very thick pelt off of my chest and belly.  Boy!  am I glad I did that.  The Admitting nurse was so incompitant.  She kept losing everything, and then after 4 tries at getting an I/V started, she finally gave up and went to fetch another nurse.  If she'd have shaved me, I'd probably be really cut up.  The next nurse came in and got it in on the first try.  Then they wheeled me down to surgery.  I met with the anostegiologist team, and they explained everything that they were going to do during the surgery.  right at 930 am the wheeled me into the chop shop.  I was kinda looking around trying to soak it all in,and the next thing I knew, i was in recovery.  About 3 pm they took me to my room.  I pretty much slept the rest of the day.  they did get me up around 8pm for a short walk, and to show me how to use my smiley.  Wednesday i woke up in a lot of pain, and my chest and shoulders were aching really bad.  They tell me it was from the air during the surgery. I could get about 1000 on the smiley at that time.  By late afternoon, I was at 2000.  I had a slight fever, and they were worried about pnumonia, so i really worked hard on that smiley, and walked as often as I could.  All the nurses I had were fantastic.  Yesterday when I awoke I felt fantastic.  I was breathing good, and walking really good.  Almost normal pace.  I still Had a slight fever, so they thought the Doctor might not let me go home that day.  When the Doc came in at 2PM, I had no fever.  As he and the area doctor left I heard him say to her  "Wow,  what an improvement from yesterday"  She came back and told us that if all my vitals checked out at 4pm, I could be discharged.  I got out about 6.  By the time I got home, i felt pretty bad again.  I think my mom was aiming for the bumps.  I got a good nights sleep though, and I have felt great all day.  And I hit 3500 on the smiley. I want to give my best to Bob and his family.  I talked to Bob on the phone on Sunday and he was really excited about going in on monday.  May all our thoughts and prayers be with him

Welcome home Kevin. I'm happy to see that you're hitting the smiley hard and sleeping well. As the guys'll tell you, walk, walk, walk, and sip, sip, sip from the get-go. That'll do wonders for you. We're all wishing Bob well, too.

Kevin, Great to hear you are home and "on the mend." Hang in there. These first few weeks are the roughest. So soon you’ll be buying new clothes or looking like a rodeo clown, And all the discomfort of these weeks will fade to nothing. Keep walking, sipping, etc… Best Wishes- Dx
