Hey guys wassup! I am hanging in there. Down 48lbs  at 4 weeks out so far so I can't complain!  Have any of you guys experienced a lost of taste after the surgery? my buds are probably functioning at about 40%.  I have the mucus problem so it may be related to that, but my surgeon  says that lost of taste is common! It sucks cause the little I eat I would like to taste, but hey.  Anyways just curios.

I'm only about a week ahead of you, however I have not had any loss of taste. My surgeon and many people around these boards said that this was very likely to happen. I sometimes wish that this had happened to me. Everything that tasted good to me before surgery tastes just as good after surgery, everything I hated before surgery... I still hate. Makes it hard to resist temptation sometimes!!!

dont worry, it comes back, mine came back at about six months. some tasts change though. Before WLS i drank coffee black, now i cant drink it without three scoops of splenda and a dozen scoops of creamer. also Pizza used to be my favorite food, now i can't stand it, strange.
Before judging someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do judge them you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I didn't lose my sense of taste, but I crave different foods and drinks now.  For example, I used to be a heavy coffee drinker and now I drink tea.  Since my surgery, I haven't had a single cup of coffee. I am developing a taste for healthier foods and eating things I never did before.

I think Dx had a great post about the Vagus Nerve that was related to the loss of taste. (vaguest and Vegas were the puns that I came up with when I was a giddy post-op, replacing food with silliness).

One thing I noticed shortly post-op was passing by a fast food restaurant french fry vent/chimney and smelling what used to be the delicious fry smell. The smell had turned into something neutral. It had ceased to register as a delicious smell. To this day, I don't think food smells affect me much.

While smells don't register the same way as before, I don't think my tastes have changed that much, but I certainly don't get as hungry as before.

So smell and hunger, but not taste.

I've experienced the same thing so far when it comes to tastes for different foods that I used to love, but more freaky is that when I'm starving and prepare something to eat, I always put way too much in the bowl or plate and find that I can only tolerate a few spoonfulls before my stomach say it's time to stop. No complaints about that though! I end up throwing more food away these days.
