Strange Brew?

I got banded this past monday, and am on a liquid diet for the foreseeable future. I just, out of crystal lite fatigue, drank some pickle juice! What odd/good things did you guys drink while unable to eat?

DTG, There are a lot of options for stuff to eat, or I guess it's drink. I would take different soups, blend, then strain. After not having anything at all, it tastes like heaven in a bowl. I never experimented with protein shakes, they might be your best bet for much needed energy. The liquid phase is definitely the worst of the whole process. It's dragging along now, but this time will seem insignificant down the road. We're all here with you. Let us know how you're doing from time to time. Ronnie

Thanks, Ronnie- The first each day, i have, over time, my 3 shakes giving my proscribed 70 gms protein daily. The rest of the day, i fill in with decaf crystal lite iced tea, jello, and v-8. It's not so bad, but i either need to  get back to work, or get a hobby. I guess the fact this is even an issue means I'm feeling better, though.

Last August I was still attending college. I was going stir crazy from not doing anything after my surgery. There was just too much time to think about not being able to eat. It gets better when you get back to your routine. One thing to look out for when heading back to work is falling into your old habits. I would become thirsty and automatically head to the pop machine, or worse, the candy machine. From the above info, you're actually doing better than I did at the beginning. I couldn't/can't stand protein drinks. It was a real challenge to get in the protein. Some days my protein was around 20-30 grams. Of course it got easier when I started on soft foods.  Glad you're feeling better. Ronnie

Dx, have you tried the sugar free sweet relish made by Mount Olive?  Good stuff, I put it in chicken, tuna and shrimp salads.  Be well. John

During clear liquids:  broth, strained soups (chicken noodle, egg drop), low sugar fruit juices, sugar-free jello, frozen crystal lite, clear isopure protein mixed with crystal light/v8splash/fruit juice, tea (hot and cold and lots of flavored teas), coffee (hot and iced), sugar-free popsicles by the dozens, lemonade, sugar-free kool-aid  - basically can you see through it During full liquids:  all the above & soups blended, yogurt, smoothies, sugar-free fudgesicles, starbucks drinks - basically anything that would go through a straw sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk      ..  good luck!

Get yourself a turkey carcass. Boil it down all day with onions, carrots, and celery (this sound familiar?). Spend time making the worlds very best stock ever! I have used this to drink straight, or with unflavored unjury protein powder added. It really cuts the sweet-taste hell we get into some times.

My favorite alternative liquid was progresso minestrone - just the broth run through a strainer. It was so good, had a parmesean cheese flavor to it....I tried it blended in a blender and it was awful. I had to throw it out. All I could taste were the chick-peas as a paste - yuck!
