August 50 Mile Challenge - Where you at?
Howdy Gents.
Speeding through the last full month of summer and having an absolute ball of it I hope. I'm ahead of schedule on my routine for the month. Gearing up for the training for the 5K in October. The training starts on Monday officially. Good times. Here are my numbers thus far.
Miles completed July: 157 (58 cycling)
Miles completed through August 15: 100.5 (50.5 cycling)
Percent of month completed: 48%
Percent towards 50 mile goal completed: 201%
Percent towards personal 120 mile goal completed: 84%
We had a number of guys indicate they were keeping track of mileage this month. Would love to hear how you are doing. Thanks!
Stronger Everyday.

I am at 60 mi as of today 15 Aug. The goal of 80 for the month is in serious trouble but I am feeling good about getting back after it and trying to break this latest nasty 6 week plateau in the process of prep for a Oct 13 10K and my personal goal of 1:10.
Read some posts from AJP, Boner, and Scott on ther races after reading about Floyd winning his age class in the 1 mile then pulling a groin the next day in the 10K but finishing with a 1:08. The man is a machine!!
Sounds like the FARTS are flowing.
Thanks Joe. A machine without a brain. After not running at all for 6 weeks, it was stupid to think I could do so much running without being prepared. At the same time, I have motivated myself to get out there and run more. After running that 8:55 mile, I was surprised that my first mile on the 10K was actually 8:53. I think the stop watch was running fast, not me. Muscles are feeling better so looking forward to getting more active next week and hopefully the weather will cool down too.
Look forward to hearing about your results. I'm sure you'll beat your goal. Good luck.
Floyd
Miles completed through August 15: 35 ( 3 5k races at under 29:00)
230 miles cycling ****ntury, the rest spinning)
Running miles are tough this month with the heat and humidity. I refuse to do the treadmill anymore since I feel like it is artificial. You got to move your feet on the road, and the treadmill seems to move your feet. (Just one man's opinion)
Hey Guys -
Okay... As usual, no mileage goals for me during the Tri season...
Just getting the required work in to prepare for each race.
Here are my numbers
Miles Last Month (July): 283
Miles August 1 - August 15: 149 miles
106 Bike / 26 Run / 7 Swim / 10 Elliptical
Still lifting 4 days each week, as well.
Another big tri comin' up...
North East Championship Olympic Distance Triathlon
North East, Maryland - Aug 26
So, I'll start my taper week this coming Monday... Ease up on the miles and just concentrate on technique.
After a few recovery days, I'll start September by getting geared up for my first Half Marathon in Mid-October
Once the off-season rolls around, I'll be seriously working on building a good base for The 2008 Eagleman 70.3 Ironman® in Cambridge, Maryland - June 8, 2008
Half Iron Distance - 1.2 Mile Swim / 56 Mile Bike / 13.1 Mile Run
And, just last week I made the big decision... Two Years from now - Full-blown, official IronMan race!
IronMan® UK - Sherborne, United Kingdom - August 2009
2.4 Mile Swim / 112 Mile Bike / 26.2 Mile Run.
Holy Crap... There must be something seriously wrong with me!![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/eek.gif)
See Ya At The Finish Line.
Be Well,
A.J.

Sounds great--I'm just starting on the Sprint Triathlon circuit, and still finishing in the bottom for the moment. I'm improving every time, though.
I've figured that it's mostly mental barriers that are holding me back...I CAN run nonstop, my brain just tries to tell me I can't. The same for the swim--I know I can swim faster, but I get convinced I have to take it easy.
Still, it'll come with work. At least I'm finishing and I'm not in last place...that's pretty much my initial goal.

It's been a while since I've been on...
My weekly routine is that I do my walk/run training routine to and from work 4 times a week--that's 7 miles each way for 28 miles a week. That's over 100 a month.
On the weekends, I try to fit in at least a race event of some sort--this last weekend I did my fourth triathlon (1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run), the previous weekend was a 50 mile bike ride.
My running program is mainly working on increasing endurance. Just this week I hit the point where I can run nonstop without being forced to stop--I still get worn out, but I don't hit rock bottom. I've gone over a mile nonstop for 3 sessions with 2.5 minute breaks.
I don't really track the numbers overly accurately, but it's well over 100 on foot, plus 50-100 on the bike...and a little swimming...
