They're these really good 100% juices that have good b12, iron and other minerals. I wanted to know if things like these you can drink. It's all natural.  www.nakedjuice.com Whenever i get surgery, i want to make sure i can see if things like these are ok. Thx.

The juice doesn't have added sugar, which is good, BUT it does have 64 grams of carbs per bottle. Once you've reached goal, this might be a good choice. Carbs are something you'll want to avoid during the weight loss phase though.  JMO! Ron

Like Ronnie says, juice is good for putting the brakes on weight loss. I am able to drink a lot of those now with little weight gain. With shortened small intestine, could be a "more you intake, the less gets absorbed" deal, not sure on that one. But it will definitely stop a low-carb diet weight loss (as will likely anything that puts you over 19 grams a day).

NotDave, I want to make sure I read you correctly -- Did you mean to say that more than 19 grams of carbs a day is bad?? I am 5 weeks post, and I did not know to keep carbs so low. Did I really miss something?? Please advise. Joe

Hi Ronnie,

It depends on if you are on "low calorie" or "low carb". If you are below 1800 calories a day, you'll probably still lose (but below 800-900 can be dangerous). If you want the "low carb" system to work for you, then 19 or below is the way to lose. For some reason, over 20 per day stops the loss. If you go low calorie, be sure to get in enough protein (1 gram per day, per kg. of ideal lean body mass e.g., 75 kgs ideal = 75 grams protein per day).

Thanks Dave, that clears it up. My Nut has me on low calorie, not low carb. I am staying below 800 to 1000 calories, although I have trouble eating so much. The protein goal she established is 1.5g per inch of height, putting me at 136. I am really having trouble getting in that much protein, but I have hit 100 a few times. Overall, I am striving to keep my protein calories higher than either carbs or fat. All of this nutrition stuff is very new to me, so I am always interested in what the experienced guys are doing. Thanks again, Joe

Joe, just try making an "elixir" from 35-40 gram of the protein. Most protein supps are not at the level of "real food" in terms of taste, so it's better to just go ahead and treat them like medicine. Before you eat, take maybe a small coffee cup full of water and mix in the protein powder, making a syrup. Just get rid of that as fast as possible. Then you've got your protein, it's not diluted with water and you've probably still got room for some good healthy food (not that whey isn't healthy - the delivery of the protein can boost energy and it's supposed to contain antioxidants that prevent colds).
