Protein Help

I have been sampling different protein products.  Not with much success.  Any suggestions.  Want to try Beneprotein but do not want to waste any more money.    Suggestions or experiences with different products would be great.  I am scheduled for surgery on Aug 20 and want to have a small stock of supplies...   Thanks.

You've just reminded me, right after surgery I purchased 70 samples of different protein shakes.  I recently finished them all and rated each of them.  I'll try to get a post together tonight or tomorrow with all the results.

I have tried about 20 different powders.  Different brands and flavors.  The BEST I have found is BNA Syntha 6.  It contains 23 grms per scoop.  It disolves the best and tastes the best.  If interested I can shoot you some ideas for shakes.  You can get the powder at Smoothie King, Vitamin Shoppe, or go on line as google search.

Syntha 6 does make some interesting claims. Never tried it, though. But, does seem to have a lot of stuff in it. It is by the makers of NO Explode, which someone mentioned in a post a few days ago.

If you are taking Glutamine and/ or BCAA's it might be a good tasting replacement. It even has fiber in it. I'm going to research the actual quantity of Glutamine and BCAA contained and may start purchasing that one, if it's worth it. Looks pretty pricey, though. May just break even with buying all of the supplements contained separately.

The absorption rate promises look interesting too.

Hey Shawn, If you can send me (or maybe just post for all of us) your list of ideas for shakes, I would appreciate it!   Brad

What I've been noticing, is if you can find a good protein that maybe doesn't taste so good, you can treat it as a medicine - just make it into a really thick concoction AND down the hatch. I visited a nutritionist in the states and she had some obvious problems with the liquid content of the protein drinks for RNY patients (the more water you take with protein, the faster it goes through the pipe - makes sense.)

So if you can find a tolerable one that digests reasonably well, just make a thick syrup solution with it (a teacup full) and gulp it down. Then go and eat something that really tastes good!

Our surgeries are the same day! I've been drinking Slimfast Low Carb shakes for my liquid diet (chocolate tastes just like a sport shake for me). For after the surgery, I've stocked up on Isopure Liquid protein (20 oz - 45 grams)  and Profect which come in 11 oz tubes and have 25 grams of protein.  Both these are kinda pricy though... Good luck, and there's a link floating around with hundreds of protein shakes on it, I don't have the link but someone will set you up with it. BobM.
