As long as you're not feeling weak, I'd say you're a bit low on the caloric intake.  Eggs, high in protein but do have a small amount of carbs in them especially if you use the yoke.  Chili high in protein but also has carbs.  Potatoes... all carbs.   I'm a bit concerned about your protein intake overall.  The one thing you want to minimize with your weight loss is losing lean muscle mass which allows you those bigr engines to burn up that fuel in the form of fat.  Muscle weighs more than fat, so weight loss is not just fat, its water, fat, muscle, etc. if you don't maintain a high enough protein intake.  If you were a meat fan pre-op this wasn't a problem.  But eggs, chili and potatos isn't going to cover it.  You're still a big guy at this point, your basal calorie count is probably around 3500 calories... you have all those cells in your body that need nurishment even if its fat, you need to starve them so they go away but you can't completely cut them off because you'll start getting weak, depressed... no energy to do your daily exercises... etc.  Keep that protein atleast 60-80g minimum... shoot for your 100g.  That's only 400 calorites to your totals but its exactly what your muscle needs to survive.  Keep the water pumping in too.  You said you were taking all your supplements but not sure if that was just vitamins/iron/calcium/b-12... or if it did include protein.  Are you taking any protein supplements and if so how much and what kind?  Shakes, Bullets, Protein powder?  Using like a scoop of anywhey protein powder in that chili or mashed potatoes should help increase your protein intake and help give you that full feeling to control some head hunger.   I'm still pre-op but i'm on my pre-op diet and to get myself trained for the types of food i'll be eating.  So, I've been eating 2 eggs scrambled with a quick spray of olive oil and add about a half table spoon of cheedar cheese.  Lunch i have a 12oz 35g protein shake (strawberry cream) with 3carbs, which i end up drinking over an hour because i'm still getting used to the protein taste.  Dinner I have about a cup of cooked chopped celery, carrots, onion and 1oz of diced chicken, add some boulion, pepper and a scoop of anywhey.  It's a bit creamy so i add more water.  Or I have a 6oz can of tuna, lightmayo, scoop of anywhey, mustard, salt, pepper and eat it with about 10 saltine crackers.  I make sure to include my multi-vitamin during the day.  I cut my favorite soda Dr. pepper out completely, I still drink diet for the caffeine fix.  But have been getting used to crystal light or water.  I'll miss diet soda post-op but i'll deal.   When's the last time you've spoken or met with your dietician?  Have you talked to him/her about your caloric and protein intake?  They're really the best ones to ask about this kind of stuff.

My doctor wants me to eat 6 meals a day and keep portions of the meals to no more then a 1/2 cup of food measured by volume.  This is what I have been following and it seems to be fine and I am a little over 5 months post op.  My doctor also says that if you ever start to feel full to stop eating.  Just to give you an idea, if I eat something that is dense like meat, I can probably not even make it to the 1/2 cup size because it fills me up quite fast.  I would say I can only eat about 3 to 4 oz's of meat to fill me up.  If I am eating something like fruit or salad, anything that mostly gets broken down to water when you chew it, then I can go beyond the 1/2 cup amount and not always get full.  You may not be feeling full yet beause you are fresh out from surgery.  I didn't start to get a full feeling until over a month out.  I dont know if that had to do with the fact that I just wasn't eating enough before that or if it has something to do with your new stomach healing and the nerves repairing themselves to give you that full feeling.  I would also be concerned about your protein intake based on what you wrote for your total food intake.  This is the most important thing and you need to make sure you hit your protein numbers.  My doctor wants me to be getting over 70 grams of protein per day and I am probably getting a little over 100 on a typical day.  I can acheive this by using protein shakes and bullets.  I typically have one EAS RTD Myoplex Lite shake which has 25 grams of protien when I wake up and then I also drink one IDS Protein Bullet every day by dividing it into two seperate servings which gives me an additional 42 grams of protein.  I typically will drink my two servings of the bullet with a meal like salad or fruit because my other meals usually consist of meat and already have protein.  You may want to sign up for a calorie tracking website like www.fitday.com which is free.  This will help you not only track your calories but also help you track things like protein and other important totals on a daily basis.  Good luck to you. John, I asked the same thing in the beginning.  Someone told me that you're unable to feel fullness until your pouch heals more, so that's why it's important to rely on the Dr.'s advice and measure your quantities at first. Head hunger also plays a big role in it during the first month, so don't go on your feelings.

I posted a post nearly identical to this one last week. I never get a sense of fullness either at 5 weeks out, and sometimes I feel as though I am eating too much too soon! I think from what everyone explained to me, this is pretty normal. Just follow the other guys advice about protein, my Doc says that potatoes are a "Big No, No". Other than that, our daily eating appears identical. I too have not had any discomfort or vomiting issues. I have also yet to find a single food that I could not handle. Also, I hear so much about how youThis kind of scares me, I sometimes feel as though maybe my surgeon tricked me and put a band in instead or forgot to make the pouch while he was in there!

John,  will be 4 weeks out this wed. and I can't eat half that much.  but i think everyones different.  I have about 4 tablespoons of soup and i'm stuffed.  or a half cup of jello or pudding, but then again I think I am kinda scared to push myself, cause i have had a few bouts of vomiting since the surgery.

John, We've all had similar feelings about eating too much and so forth in the beginning. The surgery will cause you to lose weight no matter what, in the beginning. This is known as the honeymoon phase, usually lasts for the first few months. After that, the choices you make will directly effect your weight loss. By following the guidelines now, you will form new habits that will come into play in later months. I don't think you're eating too much, according to what you've written in your post, but you should talk to your dietician about it to make sure. I do think you should watch your protein and water intake very closely though. If you don't already, start an account with fitday.com. Be sure to log every single thing you put into your mouth. The website will automatically track all of your vitimans, protein, water, etc. You can compare your results with your docs recommendations. It really helped me in the beginning. You're doing great!!
