Gaining "Invisible" Weight?

Hi Dave, I'm 2 1/2 years out.  Last year after hernia surgery and panniculectomy I lost down to 194.  That put me in the normal bmi category with a 34" waist.  In one year I've added 21 pounds back to my frame and I don't work out at all.  The amazing thing is I'm still in a 34" wasit pant and no they aren't tight.  I don't know why I have stayed at the same waist size with a 21 pound gain.  I have stayed within the same 5 pounds for the last 8 months.  I guess I've found my "ideal" weight.   Keep posting I enjoy reading even though I don't get to say much anymore. Larry!

Wow, great to see you here. Did you ever take on that teaching position? That sounded more like something that both uses your technical skill and your people-oriented personality. Hope things are going well, at any rate.

Glad to hear others are experiencing the same things as me without actually gaining waist fat.

I'll probably lose again, but maybe wait until sometime in September, because a substantial loss right as cold weather starts (here, not in NC!) to set in is supposed to kick the body's rhythms back into a positive direction.

Somebody get Buckeye on here!

Best Wishes,

Dave

Dave,
I haven't experienced any of this.
Of course, our workout regimens seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum... You've got that heavy lift & HIIT thing going, while I'm doing alot of toning / overall strengthening resistance along with my enurance / slow-twitch kinda deal.

Funny... our weights are now exactly the same.. 182. But, at 6'1", I'm now trying to stop the weight loss without cutting back on any training. It's all a delicate balance, huh?
Aw hell... as long as we're still enjoying life & feeling good!

Be Well,
A.J.

AJ,

Exactly, you've gotta go with what is fun and what feels good. I've never done anything anaerobic besides weights before, so I've got a lot of learning to do. I know nothing about "explosive power" training, except that people get injured a lot if they don't ease into it over a few months (not so much later on). What I'll have to do is make sure I'm not taking it too far. The sprints, after the first few weeks have given no hint of injury.

Best Wishes,

Dave
