I am so glad I found this Forum!

I have been lurking around OH for several weeks and a few other supportive websites for WLS.  And have wondered about the experiences of other men who have gone through this.  The other places are filled with women - no disrespect - but it is great to have found this place.  Looks like a great place to support and be supported.

My surgery is scheduled for Aug 20th and I am starting to feel a bit anxious.  I am concerend mostly about excess skin and how to maximize exercise to minimize excess skin.  I am 6-1 and 325# with much of my weight around the middle.  Anyone know where I can get some advice?

Thanks

Mike

Mike, I was just about to post the same thing, then I saw your post.  I have been an active member on a state page and I know what you mean by the women.  It wasn't until I found this forum that I feel really good about the path I'm on.  I mean just look at the answers given to Seht who needed to vent today.  The answers are not only full of helpful information, but confrontational.  Try the confronting on a state page and you will either get flamed or end up clamming someone up for 6 months and she won't post again.  The men say it like it is with no to you.  Now having said that, I love my women, but I think I'll come here when I need advice. Hey boys, its like I always say:  If men have an issue with each other, we take care of it one of two ways,  We either work it out....or kill each other.  Problem solved.  Be well gents. John

That's right, no need to dwell on things and prolong our misery - work it out or take it out!

Mike, I'm 6'3" tall, starting weight was 351. Like you, most of the excess was in the mid-section. After losing 120 pounds I only have a little bit of loose skin above my waist, and a little on the sides. I don't think more exercise would've helped me. I'm planning to look into PS in about 6 months or so.  Hope this helps.

Day of surgery weight  352
Current weight 250
Total Lost 102
Height 6'3"

Welcome to the men’s locker room, what I think is the best damn board here on OH. There are a great bunch of guys here on this board ranging from pre-ops to guys with many years post-op. They will tell you like it is because they have been there and done that. I know I have learned a bunch from the guys. Also no topic is taboo we share it all. I have been so inspired by the men’s board I trained through OH to become a certified support group leader in my state, and created a men’s only support group and named it the men’s locker room. So Mike & Paul welcome aboard.

Hey Mike, First, Welcome to the Men's Room! "Extra Skin!" topic has come up here often enough... (Usually as “What about my Man-Boobs? [Moobs]”) Here's a recent PS for Men Thread--- http://tinyurl.com/2a3bgg Exercise helps some, others not as much. I'm 4 years and some months Post-op, from 385+lbs to 180 to 185lbs range. My big ole Dolly Parton Tits went away completely. Some exercise with small weights But not a lot. I had very little extra skin, just a belt-line at the waist And had it cut off last summer. Other than that? No extra skin… Great you found the place... Only so much " We Network Channel" or Oprah can be tolerated Before you have to grab the remote! Best Wishes- Dx

I too have been looking and am very glad to have found this forum. I actually owe my finding it to a message one of its members sent me. Thank you. I have completed my preadmission, and go in Monday morning for my surgery. I have been told that I am their first case for the day. I am excited over finally getting the surgery, as I started down this path in September of last year, so it has taken a while. Surprisingly, to me at least, I am not nervous about the surgery itself. I think I am more worried about being irritated by the drains. Just wanted to pop in and say good morning and thanks to the person who emailed me. I have also received some other emails for encouragement. Will post a note on my progress after my surgery. Jim PS - My surgeon says that drinking 100 oz of water a day will help dramatically with the excess skin problem. He has a number of patients who have done the surgery who have not had that problem. Exercise was the other requirement.
