Plateau Buster Diet? Back on the wagon

I had surgery on October 23rd of last year and was 439 that day.  I have been stuck at 280 for around a month now and really need to break through.  I can't seem to find the plateau buster diet that has been posted so many times.   I know I am to blame because I have not been excercising enough and have been overeating.  I guess the honeymoon phase is over.  I am going to get back on track starting this morning and would appreciate any advice from those that have been down this road before.   Other than that I am doing well and having a great summer.  I met Kim from California when he was in town a few weeks ago.  Get this, I sat down on one of his folding chairs outside of his RV and broke the damn thing.  I really thought my chair smashing days were behind me.  Sorry Kim.

Scott, DxE's ultimate magic plateau buster diet is nothing but red meat and cottage cheese for a week. It must work.  If I did that I would be barfing and blowing chunks for a week whcih should certainly cause a weight loss. Before you get to that point his lead in advice is logical and works;  protein, water, and exercise. Get back on the program and allow your body a little time to get back on the program too. I started at 408.  I lost about 20 pounds while trying to get approved for surgery and lost another 14 in 13 days before surgery on the liver shrinking pre-op diet.  So I started from day of surgery weight of 374.  I hit my first plateau at 294 in January when I started training for my first 10K in March.  Since then I have been on one plaeteau after another (3-6 weeks then drop) but my certified nurse practicioner (CNP) at the surgeons office assured me that this was the prefered way I should lose for a successful long term condition.  Frustrating but the window for the RNY tool rapid weight  loss ranged from 12 - 18 months for most patients, not unheard of to go 24 months, regardless of the compliance with correct eating habits.  You can get back on the program and its not too late to get losing again.  I guess it means yo can stifle how much you lose in theat period but you can get back on track and still have some magic left. Choose wisely my friend.  Draw a line in the sand of what yo will and willnot allow yourself to consume.  At 232 10 months out,..I'm not breaking plastic or aluminum chairs anymore and I gotta tell you, its a great feeling.   Whats the saying that use to get thrown around quite a bit?  Nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels. You started out so good Scott.  I'm cheering for you to get back on track, get some walking in too. I'll be watching for your future FARTS.  Don't make me wait too long. Joe

Scott, I'm really sorry that you're having the plateau problem. If I were you, I would take a good look at my diet. Go to fitday.com and enter every little thing that you eat and drink in a day. The feedback can be a little suprising, but helpful. My only advice is to try and stay away from carbs. I know that if you stay below 20 carbs a day, you're body will go into ketosis and you can bet on continued weight loss.  None of us on this website are perfect, that includes me. It has been one year since RNY for me, and it's still a struggle to do the right thing. I, like you, have not exercised as much as I should have. I don't/didn't stay away from as many carbs as I should have.  However, I do watch my carb intake and always buy things that are no sugar added. I always use splenda instead of sugar here at home, and carry a box of splenda packets with me in the car. These two things combined with a little exercise have been what worked for me.  Hang in there and don't give up on yourself! Ron

Day of surgery weight  352
Current weight 250
Total Lost 102
Height 6'3"
BMI 31
