Wife made me a protein shake the other morning. 12oz skim milk 1 double pack Champion Nutruition Chocolate protein powder 1 Tbs. Jif Reduced fat peanur butter 1 banana Made about a 20oz protein shake.  yum - yum. Problem is, about 20 mins after i drank about 8oz., I felt like someone hit me with a truck.  I went "Pale as a ghost" according to a co-worker. Respirations went through the roof, very labored breathing, blood pressure crashed and what i call my "carb coma" came into effect. I was done. I mean D.O.N.E. being productive for about an hour. Finally started recovering and was OK after about 3 hours. Weird. Somethings affect me, some don't. Some things go down just fine, next day, they kill me.

Dave, What are the sugar #'s for those items?  The peanut butter probably has a ton of sugar in it, although I can't believe it alone could cause you to dump like that?  Maybe in combination with the banana? Glad to hear that you recovered! Bill

Yowch, that sucks! Howver, FF peanut butter tends to have sugar added to it to "enhance" the flavor.  Bunch of bunk to me, and in our case (those of us with RNY), I'm not sure the fat savings with the added sugar content is worth it. Combine that with a banana (very high sugar content), and whatever sugar and / or sugar alcohols are in the protien powder, that can = dumping very easily. A year out, I still have a very healthy fear of dumping, and won't eat more than a bite or two of bananas after eating a half of one and having a mild dump. Good luck!

Could be the sugar in the banana in combo With the sugar in the milk, and if the peanut butter had some sugar- (and a lot of them do, particularly the Reduced fat ones) It could have put you just over the line. That it was a "drink" also speeds the rush to the guts. If you had eaten the same amount of sugars in a more solid form They would have hit the guts a touch slower. It is an odd learning curve to figure out What will cause a problem and what won’t. Clearly you can cross that recipe off your list. Best Wishes- Dx
