I have been here a very short time, and am almost at the last stage of jumping thru hoops, to get the surgery..just have to take a heart monitor thingy tom, orrow for 24 hrs....they saw a little extra blip during the sleep test, and they insist a cardio doc sign off. My PCP does not think anything of it, but will do what the ask...anyway back to my point, It is interesting how, each surgeons office is a litle different. Mine has only one day of clear liquids, no nasty drik before hand,,,and only 4 days after, for clear, then on with the shakes, etc...for quite a few days, etc. I don't want to just state the obvious, but it is nice to know, all these offices, have their own successful WLS programs..and folks continue to do wonderfully with each one. Thanks to all those who post their helpful thought, and ideas, they are most welcome from us wls wannabees..at least I should say from this NERVOUS wannabee skinny kenny

I had the firt round of plastics in January of this year, the lower body lift...it was a hum dinger....big surgery...then a touch up of the mons in April....(they told me that would happen...just too much me to hack at one time.....) I go in this Friday for a surgery appointment, they are gonna do my thighs...that will be a biggie.... sorry I don;t have a profile up....I had a nice one with some pics...but the chicks are too aggressive, and inapproiate, that is a whole other story.... I got my before and after shots, fat - flabby - carved and so on...I thought I had sent them to you... send me an e-mail and i'll let you peak...nothing x-rated, but if you wanna see the damage that 200# can do on a 5'6" these will show you sorry I thought you knew....I yap here so much I forget newbies don;t really know the background send me an e-mail Russ

Kenny, The Docs do have a wide range of protocols. You’ll kind of see the same thing with mechanics too. I bugged my poor doc to death about "Why?" His take was that everyone does what "They" have found to work best. If for example, a doc has 3 of his patients in the same year, swallow gum, and more importantly, get it stuck In their stoma and have a big problem from it, He may start telling All of his patients- "Don’t Chew Gum!" Another doc who has never had Any of his patients have that problem May say- "Sure, I don’t see why not." Just based on what he has experienced. Same with carbonation, drinking with straws, Bowel prep, etc… There are conflicting study statistics out there concerning the Bowel prep issue. Some studies have found better results By Not doing the "Clear liquids only" due to drops in Albumin levels Prior to surgery. Same with Bowel prep, causing lowered hydration, etc… Every doc will have the experience that ‘They’ have And will go with that as their guide when faced with ambiguous clinical studies and statistics. Sort of like taking the car to the mechanic… Nearly all of them will say- "We’ll the first thing to check would be _____________" But many will have a different "____________" as their first. Yes? It all "evens out in the wash." The stats still have WLS at approx. a 70% success rate. About a 95% success rate if you take the "Non-Compliant Patient’s" actions Out of the mix. Maybe that’s why the "pre-Screen" and the psyche-eval business Is so stressed. In order to try to catch those folks who’ll Keep on eating crap after surgery. Hope all goes well for you, and that you’re on your way To health and happiness no matter what the specific details involve. Best Wishes- Dx

Every surgeon has his/her way of doing things and it can be very aggravating sometimes when you see someone NOT having to lose weight before surgery.. while your surgeon says you need to. ( My sister was never told to diet before the surgery and was far more overweight than I ) And it's aggravating when you see others eating the good foods weeks or months earlier than you're allowed, but that's just how it is. It's not an exact science.
