Has anyone tried to eat to gain energy?
I hope I can explain this one. You remember pre op when you would grab for something with tons of calories or full of sugar to try and get quick energy? Well I start looking for something post op. So I try and grab almost anything to try and find that energy boost but I can't find it. I will feel a little lethargic and don't know what to do. I know (from experience) I can't grab simple carbs. They just slow me down. Any ideas for quick energy? I do take my vitamins (including the Bs), and eat like I should. Again, I try to eat to get energy but sometimes it just isn't there...a little frustrating...Brian
Brian,
OK,
This may qualify as
The Worst Advice Ever given on the Boards…
Sugar Free RockStar!
Oooh-Baby!
I tried it for the first time back around January…
And I have one about 3 times a week now….
Loaded with Vitamins, and ‘herbal Boosters,’
and clearly a good dose of caffeine…
I know, I know…..Stop!…I Know!
But hey,
I haven’t even looked or fantasized about a Snickers Bar
In 4 years.
So, some progress has been made…
It is an odd predicament…
Prior to WLS I would Surf on a Carb Rush
and have almost super-human energy…
Well, a "Superhuman" that was sweating like a sprinkler
And wheezing like an old asthmatic cat passing a hair ball…
Now? I have peak energy as long as I keep
my blood sugar level constant.
No peaks and valleys, just steady going….
(I’m a 5 to 6 meal-a-day’er)
Low Glycemic foods, and plenty of water keep me going strong.
If I have some sleep deprivation-
(which I often do as I work at odd hours)-
That "Next Day" grogginess is knocked out of the way
With a little caffeine boost.
OK, not little, True Confession...
I also keep Starbucks in business.
All that cash I used to drop at McDonalds, and KFC
Goes to Venti Coffees with 2 ad-shots of expresso now-a-days.
I don’t know of a nutritional "Pick me up"
Other than the Ginseng, herbal stuff that’s in my SF RockStar.
I added coffee (the real stuff) back into my diet
At around the end of year one….
Got off it the month before my PS
So I would heal faster, and then 3 months after my PS?
Back on the Joltin’ Java!
RockStar, at least has Vitamins……
I Know!….I Know!!!….
like eating cake and rationalizing that-
"It does have eggs and milk, so there’s protein and Calcium!"
My "Good advice?"
Get more rest and work for constant energy level…..
My- "Worst Advice Ever?…
Try the RockStar!
It Kicks Major Azz!
(the white can, not the ‘Low-Carb’ in the Blue can…
It tastes like cat-box drippings)
Best Wishes-
Dx
Well, sometimes you have to have fruit juice. I haven't tried the energy drink type stuff that's come out the last couple of years, but something that's been around in health food stores for eons is an herbal concoction called "Up Your Gas". It has not only caffeine, but about 5 different herbs containing caffeine PLUS, just about every other energy- making herb you can imagine - potent stuff!
Dave
I drink about 40 oz of high-octane coffee a day and also have been known to consume S/F RockStar, S/F Red Bull and a whole slew of different, S/F pre-work-out / energy boost beverages.
And... I make no apologies for it.
Seems to help, I've suffered no ill after-effects and I feel great!
Just my 2¢ on the drink thing.
I also eat a couple of Clif bars every day - Lotsa (good) carbs, but I handle them just fine.
Be Well,
A.J.
