Psyche Eval II "The Conclusion"
I was in the iffice with the Dr MAYBE 10 minutes total. Spent far more time in the lobby. He asked a few questions and said you're a gret candidate, you know more abot WLS than most people I see, Have a great day. It will be sent to my PCP, who doesn't know its coming by next Wednesday. Then we continue the fight over getting the referral to USC and unsurance approval.
Joe I do need a referral from the PCP for the surgeon. I had one psyche eval that said becuase of my bad eating habits I was a high risk to fail with WLS. I tried to explain to him(PCP) if my eating habits were good I wouldn't need WLS more than likely, he agreed but denied the referral initially. I switched PCPs within the medical group and went to a non affiliated( with PCPs office) Psyche on my own, though insurance did cover it. It will be sent to PCP and then I will ask him again for the referral to the surgeon. If he refuses we go to the tiebreaker psyche Eval( #3). Though this PCP is far more knowledgable about WLS and is NOT against WLS in general like the first one.
We will see what happens in 10 days or so.
My insurance (s) didn’t require the PCP’s opinion one way or the other. Direct schedule with the surgeon who had me get the approval of a psyche-doc, and clearance exam from my cardiologist. Congratulations on this interview going so smooth. May the new doc be just as helpful for you. Best Wishes- Dx
Mine didn't require a PCP referral. Well, my insurance company didn't. My surgeon did, however, consult with my PCP to discuss my history. See, we get into the funny times here of what is required, even in the same medical groups: Insurance: 2 years documented BMI higher than 40, or 35 with Comorbidities Complete understanding of the consequences and the surgery Committment to the lifelong changes Psych Eval Clinic/Hospital, One side of town: Pre surgery weight loss of 20 pounds Committment to the program Consult with a dietition, nutritionist, educator and phys asst Psych Eval Full screen to rule out hormnal things 1 week, 2 week, 4 week, 6 week, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, year, and every year after follow up Two classes pre surgery, one on the surgery, one on nutrition 6 Week Class: Eating with your new pouch Consult with occupational therapist and physical therapist to make sure you don't have issues post surgery. Same Clinic, different part of town Didn't require the classes, nor the consults with the dietition pre surgery or the therapists after Added EEG and Pulmenologist as well as sleep study Don't have the 3 month or 9 month checkups None of us are alike, nor are our programs or surgery. My PCP rode me for 4 years before I finally decided to go through WLS. He has seen me obese my entire adult life. (20 + years now) When I walked in to his office yesterday for a blood test, 5 weeks post surgery, the man and his nurse (same nurse for those 20 years) both cried and hugged me... Yeah, it's all worth it!
