Hey fellas, I'm going to be starting my 2 week liquids soon and my wife (the Pharmacist) brought home a bunch of these Slimfast Low Carb Diet drinks that contain 20 gram of Protein per 11 oz.  They're great tasting, almost like a sportshake without all the sugar, only 1 gram of sugar and 6 grams of Carbs but it has 4 grams of fiber and with a scoop of whey the protein goes up.  However, I've never seen any posts about these, are these acceptable? Thanks, BobM.

I personally like them.......they should be fine for a preop diet. Scott

Bob, i drank them per-op.  Got to really enjoy them.  I had one for breakfast and one for lunch. Now that I am post op I'am not sure.   It's only the sugar content that I worry about.   I don't know after surgery what if any sugar intake we can have.  Good question, maybe someone will answer. Wait I might be thinking about the regular slimfast breakfast.  I'll have to check out the Low Carb Diet Drinks. Best of Luck Mike Ray

Hi Bob, My nutritionist recommended the Lo Carb Slimfast for us after surgery. I use them regularly for breakfast or lunch, sometimes with two or three frozen strawberries or a small chunk of banana or a few blueberries. Once in a while, I treat myself to adding a teaspoon (not a tablespoon) of peanut butter--that;s all it takes to make a tasty treat. They're good blended with crushed ice or nearly frozen (put in freezer 10-15 minutes). They're also handy to travel with if you're not sure you'll have easy access to okay food. I have had no dumping or other problems with them and plan to continue using them as part of my eating regimen. Enjoy in moderation without fear!

Hi there, Bob! I have tried many of them, and as an alternative for one that is a great protein-per-calories payload with very low carbs and zero sugars, take a look at EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control.  I love the Chocolate Fudge - it tastes really great! Here is the nutrition: Calories: 110 Total Fat: 3 g Total Carbohydrate: 4 g (minus 2 g fiber = 2 g net carbs) Sugars: 0 Protein: 17 These are really quite tasty - I even use 1/2 cup of the chocolate fudge flavor in my coffee in lieu of creamer, and then I add a couple of sweet-n-low's (can be added to your own taste) and I get a really nice hot mocha coffee drink.  I drink these all the time, even between meals - and it really helps to up my protein totals.  Just an idea :) Have a great day, Mike

Hey Scott, I'm doing pretty good, I've lost 10 or so pounds before my liquid diet begins on August 6.  My last meeting with the surg is August 2 where I will also meet with the nut, quack, and fitness guru. I'm so ready for this...No Fear! Thanks for inquiring, Bob.

As long as you stick to the "LOW-CARB" ones you should be fine. The regular ones have way too much sugar.  I prefer the Atkins brand products myself. The are called "Atkins Advantage" 11 ozs 160 Calories 15 G Protein 1 G sugar 4 G fiber 9 G Fat, only 2G Saturated 680mg Potassium 24 Vitamins & Minerals, including a good dose of calcium. They are a staple of my diet. Not cheap, but ultra-convenient. Wal-Mart seems to have the best price. Good luck. JP

Also, One way I rate shakes, and protein bars, is by the calorie/protein ratio. The Atkins have 10.66 calories per gram of Protein and the SLimFast  Low Carb Shakes have 9.5 Calories per Gram of Protein. Everything else about them looks to be about the same. I initially chose the Atkins, as they provided a decent shot of protein for only 160 Calories. But the Cal/Pro ratio is better for the SlimFast, so I think I might switch over to them for a while and see how things go. Since I am working out now, (and down 130 pounds in 7 months) I am looking to boost my protein intake. SOme of the guys here try to get 200 grams a day. I don't know how they do it, myself. Take care. JP
