Muscle Strains
I had WLS on Feb 13th, 2007 and have went from 300lbs to 190lbs. Weightloss has been great and my exercise levels have been constant. I'm on the treadmill 3 times per week and lift at least twice per week.
I'm an exp. weightlifer and have been working back into form over the past three months.
My problem isn't related to my exercising, as these muscle strains don't happen after working out.
I have been getting slight strains in my delts and triceps. Not a full blown pull, but an annoying strain. Does anyone else have this problem? There is absolutely no history of this with my workouts or body. Something tells me that I need to add to my vitamins or diet.
thanks!

hey Marc,
congrats on a great loss so far. dave may weigh in on this for you but i have a couple of observations. you don't mention your age but warming up is a big part of my workouts now. you get the point. the other thing might be your routine. do you split or do your whole body? either way it sounds like you get plenty of rest in between. i would just make sure you're giving those areas 48 hours to rest before hitting them again.
another thing i do is take gloucosimine. this really helps lube the joints. some of the other guys are better at vitamin requirements which may be the problem as you stated so i'll let them answer. so my short answer is get into a good stretch program before working out those parts or any part before you start lifting. drink plenty of water too. you may not be hydrating your muscles enough and water will take care of that. good luck.....carbonblob

Hi Marc,
Maybe since you have lifted a lot previously, your mental ability to work out has exceeded the capacity of your muscles and connective tissue. I used to feel slight pulls my first six months back, but now I've been lifting nearly 1.5 years and rarely have any problem (also have a background in lifting - the pattern has been about five years on, five years off).
So maybe a couple more months and you'll be used to it. Don't be afraid to take a week or two off to repair. Just switch to some other type of exercise during your time off (if you need to).
Best Wishes,
Dave
