Trail Mix/GORP recipes
Anyone have any trail mix or GORP (good ole raisins and peanuts) recipes?
Now that I eating 4-5 times a day I need more ideas. The way my job works I may sit around for 4 or 5 hours one day and then be in surgery for 6-8 hours straight the next. Proetin bars work good, string cheese, all that work ok, but I was wondering if anyone had any bariatric friendly trail mix they swear by.

Tom,
Here is one that I just got at our nutrionist's cooking class on Saturday. It's tasty.
Citrus Snack Mix
2 egg whites
3 Tbsp Madava Dark Agave Nectar
zest from 2 medium oranges
zest from 2 medium lemons
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
sprinkle of fresh grated nutmeg (may also use dried ground)
2/3 cup roasted, salted and shelled pistachios
2/3 cup roasted and salted pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
2/3 cup roasted and salted whole almonds
2 cups Kashi Autumn Harvest cereal
1 cup Kashi GO LEAN cereal
PREHEAT oven to 300 F. Beat egg whites and Agave Nectar in large bowl with wire whis****il foamy. Stir in orange and lemon zest, cinnamon and cloves. Add cereals and nut mix; toss to evenly coat.
SPREAD evenly into lightly greased baking sheet. Sprinkle grated nutmeg over mixture.
BAKE 20 to 25 min. or until toasted and dry, stirring occasionally. Cool completely. Store in
tightly covered container at room temperature.

Personally I go to the natural food store and buy bulk nuts and seeds....and just mix them together.
I start off with a base of Almonds, and pumpkin seeds...both are really high in protein. Then I add in a small amount of sunflower seeds and whatever nuts I might be in the mood for that day...or if something is on sale. I don't really measure, I kind of just eye it. To all of that I add a very small amount of banana chips and rasins (I do mean a small amount). I tend to avoid peanuts, I don't think they have a great protien value, I don't like the taste as much as almonds and they remind me of "cheap" nut mixes.
If you are watching your fat intake, you might want to limit the amount of trail mix you eat. Nuts are really high in fat.
