I may need your prayers

I fell twice within a week.  I usually fall once every year or two.  Unfortunately, both of these falls happened on my gym's property.  I've already provided them with a letter stating that the falls were accidental and absolving them of any blame.  However, they are afraid I may fall again and are considering terminating my membership.  They have the only indoor pool in my area that affords easy access for handicapped people.  I just want you to pray that they decide me to continue to use their facilities.  I had been using a regular wooden cane when I fell, and I agreed to use a four-footed cane while there.  Heck, since I already have them, I volunteered that I'd be willing to use 2 four-footed canes (left and right) to ensure my stability.  I personally think using 2 canes is overkill, but I have used them in the past when both knees were bothering me.  Thanks for your prayers.  I should have a decision tomorrow.

That's terrible news, Bob...

I think they should take responsibility for the handicapped by allowing them in, regardless of their ability to balance or whatever. Likewise, places who support the handicapped should be absolved of injury liability in these situations. What a mess. Prayers in your direction!

Bob, Sorry to hear about your difficulties with balance.  I will keep you in my prayers.  As you point out, consistency in the gym is important to continue.

Sjbob, sorry about your falls and hope it doesn’t get in the way of your progress toward better health. Back when I was starting out, I had to deal with a walker and progress through one of those "footed canes" till I was steady and fully ‘re-cooped.’ I took a spill in my own home and busted my shoulder. Still dealing with that injury here over 3 years later. Hope your spills are small ones and become fewer and further between. Best Wishes- Dx

dang, well at least you showed your willingness to stay stable and no sue them. however, it's private property and they hold the key. if you lived in LA with me the first course of action would be to sue the crap out of them and then go after discrimination of the handicapped. it must be nice to live somewhere where people take responsibility for their actions. that's no longer alive out here.

anyway, i'll talk to my bro when i get a chance and check out the legal aspects. he's a deputy district atty. oh, ardberg is an atty too, maybe he'll weigh in.......carbonblob

Thank you for your prayers.  The strange thing about my gym is that they have a therapy center which accepts patients for therapy.  So, many handicapped people who need to use the therapy pool must walk through the gym.  Strangely, the entrance from the land based therapy center has steps to the pool deck.  So, there are people with canes, walkers, and rollators going through the gym.  I told the gym manager that, if I were to ever fall again, they could just call 911 to get appropriate help.  Then she gave me some BS about how they don't like to call 911.  I've only been going there for 6 mos and I only go for about 1 hour in the morning;  in that time, I've seen emergency vehicles there 3 times.  One time they had ambulances from 2 towns plus the police.  I just assume someone must have had a heart problem.  I'm not going to sue.  They are not at fault.  But, if they do terminate me, I will look to see if I do have any rights through the State based on discrimination against the handicapped.
