Hello Jim...
I know that when I tried to jog, it was like trying to bounce a water balloon
watch for the thighs scraping too...that was big deal....some of the guys used underarmor....that stuff just gave me a rash, and I didn;t need any help in that department....
I know you want the fres air, but I did the eliptical to get in the cardio without the knee banging, and belly butt and moobs flopping
not much help, but glad you are progressing
Russ
The two problems that I have are the noise. I couldn't figure out the slapping sound for about two months. The other is that it is sort of like am appendage nowand gets red and cold even if the weather is warm. Other than that there are no side effects. Oh sure it looks like hell flopping around but I kind of use that as my badge of courage. You could try to use some compression shirts to hold it down.
Scott
Jim, The Underarmor / Compression-Sports garments seem to help most. But actual "hurting?" Is it the knees? Don’t hurt anything while getting in that extra exercise. Good shoes help as well, or did at least for me. A pair of Brooks Dyad 4 ‘Running Shoes.’ Caught ‘em on sale for 50 bucks. Good "Bang for the Buck" and Much "Sweeter on the Feet" than my New Balance. Best Wishes- Dx
It no longer hurts to jog, as in joint pain, which is thankfully a thing of the past. The tugging skin doesn't hurt. It is just annoying.
I guess I'll try the compression shirts. That sounds like it should help.
No more *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap* *slap*...
Thanks, all.
Hey,
I gave Scott a hard time when he first told me about the nylon underware,...we men call it underarmor,..or some equivalent knock-off brand,...like the stuff I buy at WalMart.
But Scott gave good advice. I use the shirts and shorts. I like the longer cut shorts that come down on my thighs. It minimizes the flapping and comes up high enough to hold the stomach too.
They make shirts that you can wear like a t-shirt as well as the compression stuff you'd wear under a t-shirt. I have both and use the t-shirt type since it got hot outside. Back in Jan thru April I used the long-sleeve compression under a t-shirt or sweatshirt. It does wick the moisture but it keeps the flab from flopping too. And if I am jogging/training by myself,...let-er-flap. It bothers me that its there, but its also a reminder of were I've been and motivates me to stay out there.
Glad to hear you're getting started. It will help get some more pounds off too.
Another Scott-ism is to sign up for a race or two and tell people about it. Then yuo have committment and It is a great motivator to get going regularly to practice and be prepared so as not to be embarrased by your results.

You know I tried some of that Armorall and it made my skin smooth as silk, but I smelled like vinyl! I couldn't understand it.
As far as the flapping, I knew it was me but when other joggers passed me they kinda looked at me, especially the chicks, and I just started looking up into the sky and saying, damn those ducks!

Bob you crack me uo dude!
As for the bouncing I don't have any suggestions but I can certainly relate to your frustration. I have been adding more and more jogging to my time on the treadmill and last night was wondering if I should ask my wife to borrow one of her sports bras to control the bouncing of my saggy man boobs! I think I will give the compression shirts a try thogh first..
